I have two ways to go: UAUDIO 2-610 Dual and EQ AMEK PUREPATH DMCL dual and dynamics
I don`t have any other good mic pre (i own a dbx 386 but i think it stinks)
I don`t have any other outboard here
I record some rock bands, acosutic songs, pop songs, commercial for radios.
I really don`t know what to do. I DO need some advice from you guys

Gus, those seem quite a bit different to me. I was going to get a 2-610, but then the LA-610 came out. Well, turned out I got monitors instead. You may want to consider something that's a little flexible sound-wise, if it's going to be your only pre. Great River may be a good option in a similar price point since you can adjust the amount of "Iron" in the signal path.

Gus, please tell us a bit more about your current setup. What are you recording to? What sorts of microphones are you going to "feed" the preamp? You mentioned the dBx preamp, but you must be using more than just that if you're currently recording rock bands... what else do you have?
Oh, and what is your budget?

Due to the genres you mentioned, I'd probably stray away from the Amek...opting for a more colored classic neve design or api. I'd lean toward the amek if you're work were more along the lines of classical chamber music.

I just got a UA 2-610 and I like it. One weird thing...one of my favorite mics is the At 4050. The input impedance switch on the 2-610 (for mic) is selectable for 500 ohms or 2k ohms. The 4050 "wants" 1k. There is a profound difference in sound when switching from 500 to 2k. 500 is too muffled and 2k is a little more mid rangy (still sweet) than I've heard the 4050 sound before BUT...what I thought was clear before, wasn't.

Folks
I use a Yamaha O1V for monitoring. When recording drums, i use the dual dbx on the overheads and kick and snare on the 01v mic pre. I don`t know what is worst why m i laughing ? i should be crying here
all other things i record after. I don`t need more than 2 channels to record vocals, a.guitars...
Anyway, my mics are: SM81 overheads and sometimes acosutic guitars, sm57 snare, d112 kick, ksm 32 vocal ans ambience, Neumann u87 vocal and ambience, acosutic guitars
I live outside US. Here im my country i can`t find all the gear you guys can. I can`t import things because the taxes. So, we should stay restrict to these two gears : UA 2-610 or AMEK DMCL. all the other gears i find here are crap.
I record some pop songs, rock, acoustic guitars a lot, voice. I do some jobs in the advertsing bussiness (commercial for radio).
I always hear lot of good things about mr. Rupert neve gear. I know it is a little flat but i think it is always a good choice
About 2-610: Ive read some killer reviews. Iv`read some posts saying it is a piece of crap. I have never seen a gear so hate or love it.
I think it`s all clear. I have some money now and i have to do the right thing.
Hope to hear from you guys Thanks all Take care

I'm not sure where you live, or what other brands are available there, but if I had to stick with one or the other of those two preamps for someone in your situation, it would be a difficult decision. First of all, the AMEK is going to be discontinued later in the year - at least according to their website. That would be a concern to me. Secondly, while the AMEK is a good preamp, and less colorful than the UA (probably a good thing for someone with only one preamp) I think a good portion of what you're paying for with it is the compressor section... and I am not a huge fan of tons of compression when tracking... but a little, and at the right times and places is okay. Just go easy with it.
The UA 610 is a very nice preamp, but it's a pretty "colorful" choice for your "only" nice preamp. That might be a concern. Then again, if you're careful with the gain staging, it can do a decent job at getting clean tones down... but it's always going to have that tube tone to it.
If I had to pick between the two, I'd probably lean towards the UA, but again, it's a really tough call, and I think there are other options that would be better - if you can get them where you live.

I like the Amek 9098 mic pres. You might look at the Midas XL-42. The John Hardy is always a good choice. I'm of the belief that, if you only have one, it should be clean rather than colored. The idea of the Great River isn't bad either, as that pre is flexible. The A Designs MP-2 pre is clean, but with a nice roundness provided by the tubes. You can put an ATTY on the output, overdrive the MP-2, and get a very creamy sound if you wish.

do some research on the Trident 4T Celebration channel strip. preamp, instrument direct in, stereo in for keys and such. eq and compressor. analog vu meter with gr mode. i spent all of today A/Bing it against everything in my store (the entire UA line, the entire Avalon line, the entire Vintech line) and it was on par with, if not absolutely destroying, everything that we have. keep in mind it only costs $1000 bucks. do anything you can to hear it. it's mind blowing. check out http://www.tridentaudio.co.uk/4T%20sales.htm and see what you think.

Well Gus, it might help to know where you live (what country) and what brands are available there. If you're not certain what brands can be purchased locally, I can try to find that out for you if you'll let me know what country you're in.
And yes, Manley and Great River both make excellent preamps. In your situation, I would probably lean towards the Great River NV series if they're available in your area. They have a lot of versatility, and excellent sonics.
