What, in your opinion, is/are the best software equalizer(s)?

i just picked up the URS SSL mix EQ. it's a very feature rich EQ with color... the fulltec is on my list to get as well.
for transparency the new DiGi EQ3 is great..

Well, for colored, this might be considered "cheating", but I voted other for the waves Q-clone.
As for surgical, algorithmix red hands down, followed by GML then algorithmix orange in my book.

Eric, you got the Mix, rather than the S, correct? How would you compare the two?
Chris, I just looked up the Algorithmix Red - $1999.00 - I'd expect it to sound at LEAST as good as a good hardware EQ at that price. Also, the Q-Clone is not cheating - I'm looking at getting the Hydratone myself (somewhat similar concept).

You left out the A series URS which would be my first choice,so that would leave me with Hydratone except performance-wise it's not ready for prime time yet,so I'm left with a 3 way tie between UAD Pultec and TL-EQ1 and Sonalksis SV-517(3 different colors). For transparencey I'd be hard pressed to beat Waves Lin EQ,but the Timeworks is pretty nice. What do I own and actually Use? Mostly the old TL-EQ1 and Sonalksis SV-517 for color and Timeworks for transparency and clinical stuff.Too bad the Hydratone is stuck in Pluggo and bad performance overall otherwise I'd be using that mostly, and too bad URS is shackled with a USB dongle(I need that bandwidth for performance and don't trust flimsy devices for that kind of investment),and too bad UAD Pultec is on a PCI video card and too bad Waves uses a destructive form of PACE,but all in all I'm happy with what I have.Although Iv'e never tried it,I hear too many good things about Voxengo's Gliss EQ and am very surprised it was left out of the Poll.

I nearly posted A or N in the poll, maybe I should have done a few more choices. Gliss wasn't on the list because it's a dynamic EQ and didn't exactly fit either category.
As to Timeworks, I very rarely use the clean mode, almost always the vintage mode, but I think it is a good sounding and very versatile EQ.
Is the TL Audio EQ still available?

The best "character" software EQ I've used (for the price) is the PSP Master Q. One chief limitation is that it runs on stereo files only. They will likely change that in an upcoming service release.

2 cents worth...
I'm trying the demo on the UAD Precision EQ.
Transparent and very "easy on the ears". I tried it on a couple of spots I did last week and boosting presence and bottom end was beautiful. It added the clarity and beef that I was after without any harshness at all or any low end smear. Crisp, tight, focused sound. (Describing these things is quite the challenge.)

I'm also using the Precision, but I'm (so far) unconvinced. I think I simply need to adjust to surgical, since I almost always use a very colored EQ because really like to KNOW when I'm EQing.

i really really dig all of the uad software stuff, actually. the precision eqs are incredible. the effects are all awesome. and the guitar modeler is the best one ever made, hands down. ugly as sin, though.

Unfortunately no which is a shame really. It would be nice to bring it along to my next DAW,but there are some problems due to it being dated like not functioning properly with PDC(luckily I can disable that on a plugin to plugin basis in Sonar)and using it above 48hz.This is a very underated plugin that should have been updated.

You nailed it...alot of ME's I know are switching to the algorithmix stuff and leaving their Weiss hardware to collect dust for the surgical digital eq side of things.
