Since Tracktion doesn't support ACID, and since the foundation of many of my songs will be drums via loops, what do you all recommend for a (simple) loop editor than can be rewired to Tracktion? Sony Acid Pro 5? Reason? Other?

You don't need to Rewire it. Just get the econo version of Sound Forge and loop them "offline". You did say a loop editor, right?
It sounds like you mean a loop application in and of itself. Acid 5 Pro will Rewire but...
If you want a recommendation for an app that will do drum duties via Rewire to Traction, I'd go with Acid. It's very flexable regarding what loops you can use. In other words, anything goes with Acid.
Reason, you're little more locked in to what you can do. Reason is great, but maybe not for what you'e trying to do.

well you have a audio editer allready.. so having acid as a slave seems wrong.. might as well just have the whole project in acid if your going to do that.. i'd just use tracktion to make the loops or use reason.. with reason you will atleast get synths and stuff you cant do with tracktion.. i dont see the point of having 2 audio multitrack appz running if one can do the job

To calirfy a bit, I want to be able to easily edit drum loops (change tempo, add sounds, etc) and then get the altered loop into Tracktion where I'll lay down the remaining tracks (analog for the most part). I agree that ACID and Tracktion may be redundant (why use the latter if I'm going to learn the former?), so that's why Reason has some appeal, but I don't know how easy it will edit loops (although having some of its other features may also be appealing).

Does Tracktion do automatic time streching? If not, I think Sound Forge and Acid are a great pair for what you're trying to achieve.
Sound Forge to clean up, trim, do some sound design, etc. Acid to integrate into or even create your arrangement.
Acid is not so good at standard, linear recording and playing back of tracks, however. It can be done but it's a pain and should be avoided (trust me on that one ).
So... Traction could be you "home" app so to speak. Then you rewire Acid into Traction. That sounds like a cool solution.

I don't know Groove Agent. Acid, on the other hand, is very flexible. You could just have it play some loops for you, or... you could get down and edit the piss out of the loops to bend them to your will!

Groove Agent is okay, but I'm not sure I'd give it much of a recommendation. It has a lot of different styles but, if you're like me, most of them aren't that useful, and you have only a limited ability to mash them up. Look into Spectrasonic's Stylus RMX, if you haven't already. I have both (bought GA a couple years ago and Stylus last year). Since I have Stylus, I haven't even touched GA.
Also, I'm not sure that Reason is the program you're looking for if all you want to do is loop editing. The Rex player is definitely good for loop playback, but you need to have Rex format drum loops already made. I'm not familiar enough with Traction, but if it is capable of loading Rex files, you might be better off picking up Stylus and Recycle (the program that lets you create Rex files from normal audio files), as Stylus also lets you load in your own Rex files.

--Mark Tracktion only imports wav and aiff files, but it does have Rewire capability. Sounds like ACID is the best bet so far. I'll look into Stylus, thanks.
