Yea... I must say, since I'm running a business I need to compete with "the other guy," and right now my levels aren't up to par there. I have the gear and the mixes are getting there, but my mastering is lightyears off right now.

If u see this... I was wondering about this comment of yours:

"I find that by tracking things at about -18 / -15 dBFS, I have plenty of headroom for the louder passages, things never "peak" and give me "overs", and I have more room to play with things at mixdown time. "

When I've been tracking, I've been doing it probably around -12 / -9 and I'm wondering if I'm messing up here! I just go the Inspector plug-in, so until now I couldn't see the true peaks going on, but it seemed like those levels were fine. I have mostly been doing metal bands, who's guitar distortion acts like a compressor, so it doesn't seem like peaks have been a problem with them. When I do drums though, I'm definitely more in the range you were talking about. Vocals though, once again, I'm up in the -9 db range, but then again I've been tracking these "growlers" with a good amount of compression so it's much like the guitar tracking scenario.

BTW: I ordered a Bob Katz book (but the cheaper one) and Craig's book. Should be sweet!

Mr. where - you talking about the new traction 2 ? I've been thinking about it ever since you mentioned it - looks nice...$149 at Guitar Center or Sweetwater.
