I really, really, really think that the Groove Tubes SDCs are a ridiculous deal. The GT44s, which sold for like 400 dollars a piece a year or two ago, can now be gotten for the same price for a pair. I love when things get discontinued. I own those now. For now they're rounding out as my only SDCs that get used often.

I don't like KM184s.

A lot of people swear by the AT4033 - a "desert island" mike. I use the AKG 451-B for piano and guitar. It's excellent at getting high transients and enables acoustic stuf to poke thru the mix more naturally. The AKG is great combo with Oktava MC-012, or any of the above mikes for ST combos.

The AT4033 is actually not my favorite. I find it slightly too midrangey on vocals for my tastes, although I can totally see how somebody else who is battling to get a vocal through a thick mix might reach for it.

It's pretty good on guitar cabs, in my opinion.

Okay folks, here you go:

New AT4041's ("Bulk Pac") at $189 + shipping.

Clonk here.

Ask for Randy.

I've got two of 'em on the way to me. \:\)

Link please? ;\)

I remember a while back when we were talking about the GT33's and GT44's, and when Gtr Ctr was blowing them out for dirt cheap... I had just purchased a pair of 33's, so at the time I wasn't interested... but I wouldn't mind having a pair of 44's. If you know where I can find a pair for four bones, please enlighten me. \:D

Also, I was under the impression that they were still in production on both models. Are you certain that they have been discontinued? I DO know the distribution has changed a few times (GT / Alesis / M-Audio / GT) but I hadn't heard that GT had actually dropped them from the current product line...

I don't like KM184s.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of them either - I greatly prefer the older KM84's, which were replaced by the KM184's. Two COMPLETELY different sounding mics IMO.

I found another AT4041 deal at the same vendor as Phil's deal. It's for you guys that need a pair. Check this out:

For $389.99 you get a pair of AT4041s, a pair of 20' Whirlwind mic cables and an X/Y stereo mounting bar for the mics. Assuming a mic price the same as Phil's deal, the cables and X/Y bar end up costing you around $11. Pretty good deal if you happen to need two mics and can use the cables (wish they were shorter though) and the X/Y dealie. Make sure you put your zipcode in the little "shipping calculator" window and I think you'll get free shipping too; at least I did! Not sure how long this promotion lasts...

Thanks again Phil, for pointing me toward this deal...I couldn't find new 4041s for anywhere close to this price. You easily saved me a Benji on the pair; probably a little more.

It is indeed. I own about 50 mics, but I don't currently own any 4041's, and they realy are good little mics, so I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a new pair so inexpensively. Due to the Ebay thing, I didn't get the cables and stereo bar, but I already have plenty of both, so it's no biggie to me, but for anyone who can use a pair, and could use the extra goodies, the deal Rog pointed out is probably the way to go.

Got my pair of AT4041s today. Jeeze, they sure got here fast! Since the price was so low, I was half expecting the mics to show up loose in the shipping carton or something but I'm happy to report that they're in their normal factory packaging. I'll probably play with 'em some over the weekend...

Wow, that WAS fast Rog... I sent my payment by MO instead of using a credit card, and because I sent it Express Mail, they probably will get it today sometime... or so I hope. That means I might see them by the end of next week. No rush for me, but if they get here early, I won't complain either. ;\)

How does the stereo bar look?

I just spoke to them, and they did get my payment today and are processing it now. Should have the mics sometime next week.

Hey Phil,

8th Street is in Philly so I guess the UPS guy only had to jump on I-95 for a few exits and he was at my house before he knew it! ;\)

Well, I'll say this: the stereo bar is worth at least what I paid for it! ;\) It's well-made enough, I think by On-Stage Stands. But, it's not really very flexible. The two mic mounts are about 6-7" apart and there's no adjustment beyond the mic clip's own ability to "pan & tilt." I guess you could use a gooseneck on one or both mics to achieve differing relative mic placement possibilities.

Oh, another quick note about the mic cables, in case anyone cares. The 8th St. website says "Whirlwind" but I'm not convinced that's what I got. The only markings are on the connectors (plastic Amphenols) and on the cable itself, which simply states "Microphone Cable." \:\) There was no packaging on the cables beyond a bread-loaf wire tie. Can't find a brand anywhere but it does seem like fairly decent cable...

One of my stereo bars (I don't remember where I got it) has moveable arms that you can pivot, which I really like. It makes adjusting the relative mic positions a lot easier.

My pair is scheduled to be delivered on Friday.

Where, did you decide to pick up any more 4041's? That deal is screamin', and I don't want you to hate me. ;\)

And also, a bump for Basil.
