ok i'm thinking of buying the URS fulltec EQ..
Anyone use it?
how much better then stock digi EQ's, EQ 3, ect.
i am looking for something that colors the sound. the fulltec has had great reviews.. think it's worth it?

I've never had the opportunity to mix my music on a SSL, or with vintage hardware EQ's. so ok i love the idea of having Emulations of great sounding hardware . i've been playing with the URS demos all night, and I would like to buy some new plugins to add new colors to my mixes.

i've been comparing the URS EQ's one by one to the new DiGi EQ3. i've been matching Q's, Gains, and freq's. and i haven't found a sound from a URS EQ i cant dial into the EQ3 or at least very very close..

where is this analog highend magic? i've been testing with drums, bass, violin, and acoustic guitar tracks. i'm trying really hard to find a reason for a USR EQ... so far the only thing i can think of is if you are used to using them and like the way they dial in settings.. sonically i cant find a benefit. trust me i really want to..

ok and the comment about just having them in as an flat insert to color the sound is BS. i put a BLT on a track with a 16 hz to 22khz sweep, bounced and the tracks/wavforms are identical. so i thought ok maybe it's in bypass until you adjust a gain. so i cranked the highend .1db and the level -.1db and almost nill to no difference in the bounced file.. where is the analog sound of the circuitry that everyone is talking about? i know if i put a flat BF2A or 3A i'll hear the color/change..

can someone give me a working example to try so i can see a benefit of spending the cash for these EQ's.. they do sound great but nothing i cant recreate. is the benefit just having the eq curves of the hardware? just so you don't have to spend time setting up a standard EQ?

Eric, I have not tried the URS stuff, so I really can't offer you suggestions or any comments about your tests.

As far as emulations of hardware go, some plugs come closer than others... and there are some people who think you can do anything you need to with a good collection of plug ins, while others think hardware still sonically trumps any emulations. Only YOUR ears and preferred working methods can dictate what you should get, so I commend you for taking the time to actually experiment and listen.

BTW, have you tried the URS A and N series EQ's?

yep tried them all.
you can get a demo for 10 days from the site if you have a iLok. thanks for the reply, i just feel like i'm missing something. i've read a bunch of posts on the DUC about people loving them. i do think they are great replicas but not something that cant be recreated with the stock EQ.. i'm bummed i wanted it to be a new sound for me. i think allot of gear is just a bit to hyped and mythed. like we all of a sudden forgot how to make a good EQ.. The idea that the new digital NEVE console EQ's i deal with at work are inferior to the old ones just seem ridiculous. ask people making modern gear how they feel about there stuff. I'm not saying they are better just different.

I've never used the Pulteqs, but supposedly the UA plug-ins are supposed to sound really great, virtually indistinguishable from their hardware counterparts. I cannot comment on the one above, but maybe you could check that out.

I use a Bomb Factory Pulteq, and it sounds fine, nothing that makes me jump up and down, but it's fine and fairly musical. The only analog EQ I've ever used extensively in my home studio prior to that was the EQ on an Akai MG1214 (which is in my opinion a cheap-sounding and slightly harsh EQ when boosting), and I can tell you that the Waves EQs and Bomb Factory EQs are much more flexible, musical, and quieter. I used a Manley Massive Passive at NAMM and was utterly enthralled with it, checking out the unit for probably about half an hour. Now that's a nice EQ, and if that could ever be emulated in a plug-in, I'd be all over that in a second. However, I ain't holdin' my breath! \:D

well i played with the URS plugs a bit more... i have to say i do like the S series (SSL Eq). the URS plugs do have a smooth highend.. i still think you can get really close with tweaking your stock EQ but i guess if you want that extra edge they will give it.. i think 1/2 of it might just be that people like presets/plugins that just already sound good with minimal tweaking.. at the end of the day my tracks are sounding different and i like the new colors. i be getting the SSL eq in the morning, plus it comes with the URS (DiGi) eq and BLT till the end of june. the BLT is just cool because it's so basic..it's great to have post verb. I also like how it's a multiformat purchase you not only get the RTAS but VST as well. my ableton tracks will like that.
Being that i can only afford one of the plugs the SSL EQ is the most useful to me. it is the workhorse of the bunch and i need that for drum tracks. but the others are nice and i wouldn't mind having them. the fulltec and neve do have a nice sound but are to limited for an all purpose EQ.

Hi Eric :

I agree with you in the sense that many EQ's that I've tried & bought, are ultimately somewhat underwhelming.

I haven't tried the URS stuff though due to the iLok part of it. I just can't be bothered to mess with that.

I can recommend another EQ to try. Sonalksis.
Very sweet. Really something different IMO. Give it a shot.

Of all the ones I demoed from them, I really liked the A and S series. I'm leaning towards purchasing the S series soon. They do sound great. The other ones just didn't do it for me.
Peace

yep i just got the S series..

its the most bang for the buck... you get the 6 band SSL, (MIX) the 7 band SSL mod for DiGi soon to be vst, and the BLT if you buy this month.. the S series is what i need but i just like the BLT i'm using it more then i thought. it's a 2 band fulltec
