I wanted to try out the Gemini but the retailer that I deal with on a regular basis won't touch these mics. In fact, he won't sell any Chinese mics, the reason being quality, consistency and customer satisfaction.
I need a tube mic to warm-up vocalists that have thin, midrangy voices. He suggested some alternatives including AT4060 and the CAD VX1. Also, intriguing is the Peluso line of mics but there is no distributor in Canada so I can't try it.

I had a couple of SE mics, and I don't any more.
At Ocean Way last July we heard the ADK Hamburg and Vienna, and a bunch of us liked them. Studio Projects has a tube mic that has gotten reasonable reviews. There are ATs in that 40 series that are very popular for vocals in various Nashville venues and are well though of. The Mojave mics are getting good noise around the internet, but I've never heard them myself. You could also consider one of the Royer mods to one of the $99 Chinese mics. You'd be into $300-$400 plus some sweat equity. You have options. My own preference would be for something with proven quality and reliability, like the AT. But all the options are viable, I guess.

SE has a very cool "trial" program, and they can put you in contact with a local dealer. For more info, please read my review of three of their mics that I linked to above.
Personally, for the type of vocalist you described, don't think the Gemini would be my first choice - it's pretty modern and "bright" on the very top, but that's my personal preference speaking... you may find it perfect for what you're after... but you don't have to take my word for it - you can try it for yourself, in your room on your specific vocalists - a very cool and commendable program IMO.

Either the distributor or owner of the company has changed here in Canada and they go under "Newton International Corporation". http://www.ntemics.com I was going to do a trial but all the SE mics have different product names and numbers and they don't sell or stock the Gemini or the ICIS. So.....that's out. Think I'll try another company.

I used an older SE LD Mic on a project a couple years ago. It was OK (typical low-cost chinese mic), nothing remarkable, but usable.
Haven't tried their new stuff, which is reputed to be better. Certainly more expensive...

Well, the new stuff is quite a bit different than the older models. Used to be SE stuff was your typical rebrand / available from several companies... now they make their own stuff, and the distributor and factory are co-owned, and they don't provide mics for rebranding - it's exclusively SE.
Of the three mics I tried, I liked the SE Z3300a the best overall - it is a really nice sounding multipattern FET at a very reasonable price.
d-dmusic, I'm sorry to hear they don't offer the trial program in Canada. But for USA buyers, I think it's a cool program.
