I'm an Indianapolis resident and would like to go to NAMM, but I'm wondering... can I? I didn't read everything on their site (as there is a ton of stuff and it's not very logically setup), but from what I saw it seems like you have to be a vendor or equipment manufacturer or something to go. Can just your average joe go? What does it take. My studio is a real, govn't licensed business, so I think maybe that could get me in, but still...
On another note, who all is going? Maybe we could say hey to each other while you're here. I can also offer you the real scoop on what this city is about, where to go, where to eat, and cut throught the BS about my city in the advertising hype (like Indianapolis is the 12th largest city... that's not true).

NAMM is the National Association of Music Merchants.
Technically, the only people who get to attend are vendors (gear manufacturers) who are NAMM members / have booths, musical retailers and the press. Of course, that doesn't mean that other people don't get in. There is a long (and frowned upon) tradition of people "borrowing" badges from friends and going instead of them on one of the days. Some manufacturers will get passes into the hands of some of their friends and loyal customers... etc. etc. But having a studio doesn't qualify you for admittance. Now the AES shows, that's another story.
Your best best is to ask around. Occasionally someone here on Musicplayer will have passes up for grabs (usually a gear manufacturer), but they have to get their lists in well in advance, so unless someone has a spare, you're probably out of luck for this year. Unless someone at a local music store is willing to bring you as a guest and has a spare pass.
BTW, I doubt seriously that I will be going to summer NAMM. I usually only hit winter NAMM (since it's local) and as many AES conventions as I can get away to.
