What does it cost? Netshell APA 32 - $1600 Retail. Netshell APA 44 - $2400 Retail. Clients will receive the IRL and Q-CLONE plug-ins for free (valued at $1600 retail). Source.
At that price point, it looks like a Powercore and UAD-1 competitor. As with most DSP solutions, it looks like it will only run a limited variety of plug-ins, most of which come directly from the hardware developer. If you like the Waves plug-ins (and generally, I do), this looks like it might be worth looking into. OTOH, unless they open it up to third party developers, it will be limited to only Waves plug ins, so that's something to factor in. A PT HD system's DSP isn't as limited in that regard... but HD is a lot more expensive. And of course, if you use a lot of Waves stuff, then this will still free up power elsewhere in your system that you can use for other third party plug ins. And that also holds true for Powercore and the UAD-1.
Is it just me, or does Waves seem to be positioning themselves towards the hardware side of things more and more as time goes by?

I'd like to see someone make a protocol that would allow you to host your plugs on another PC! A whole PC is cheaper than the Waves box.
Think of it... all your plugs over on PC 2 while you do all your work on PC 1.

Steinberg's got something that is conceptually similar to that... using a second CPU for extra DSP horsepower. Ditto that for Logic.

yeah system link... your better off using a SPDIF/ADAT channel as a insert then trying to get these things working well..

no problems..
the only problem i had with it is that after all of the setup time and dealing with 2 systems it's just not worth it to me... might as well just bounce a track.

Is it just me, or does Waves seem to be positioning themselves towards the hardware side of things more and more as time goes by? Well, it IS a lot harder to copy hardware and post it for download on the usenet...
