Hey all,

I have a bunch of PTle 5.3.1 sessions that I want to import into Cubase SX 3. Now if I recall there is a way to convert PTle tracks into continuous .wav files by selecting all of the tracks and converting them with one command; though I cannot find or recall the command.

What I would like to ideally do is convert or copy the PTle projects into a format that I could open in Cubase SX 3 and retain all of my mid, audioi, markers and project parameters.

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to do this?
I am running a Windows XP box.

Thanks in advance.

Jotown:)

this is what i recommend. select everything in protools, then consolidate selection... import the audio files into cubase... export the midi file and import the midi file into cubase...

you will need to remix everything..

why do you want to bring em into sx?

They are a bunch of unfinished songs that need to be completed. I Have an AMD machine with a TC Powercore and a UAD card. I also have a few VST things that I use a lot, most notably Stylus RMX and Atmosphere.

I got a great deal on an RME 96/52 and since Digi will not be supporting PTle after version 6.4 I have decided to put the Digi 001 on ebay and move into Cubase SX completely.

I just upgraded to version three and I don't have a client drive biz so I don't need Pro Tools for it's marquee value. And I am very happy with Cubase SX 3.

Just a question.........out of curiousity, if you had the equivalent plugs for PT, would you have experimented with Cubase??

At the time I first got Cubase I was doing a lot of work in a studio that had a PT tdm system. The nature of the project required extensive midi functionality. At that time I had been using Cakewalk at home and doing the sequencing there. I would then bring the midi files into the studio and import them into Pro Tools.

I wasn't that crazy about the audio in Cakewalk Pro Audio and I wanted to find an environment that gave me midi and audio in the same space. Midi in PT has only recently gotten it together and I really hate using third party wrappers, along with the track limitations.

Last, but not least; I really have always hated the Digi locked in system and in the last couple of years PC's can just rock audio. I did a Nuendo project and I was blown away at how much better the Nuendo mix bus sounded vs the PT tdm bus. Cubase SX just fit.

I am just at a point where I don't want to have to keep learning new programs and forcing the software to work with the hardware. My setup at home is far from perfect, but it works.

if you can, try exporting as an aaf in PT and then importing it into SX3.

aaf is pretty awesome. i just had a guy working on a mac send me a PT file exported as an aaf. i imported the aaf file into Nuendo3 on the pc and the session opened great. all regions were properly placed and all volume automation came through as well.

it's worth checking out if you can. it might simplify your life quite a bit....

I got an email from a guy who recomended Digitranslator software. With it you can turn any PT file into an OMF file that you can open in Nuendo or Cubase.

I went to the Digi website and they want $499.00 for it and I don't want to spend that much.

Anyway... thanks for the replies.

you don't need digitranslator for AAF. that's why it's cool. AAF is new. omf is a very old standard.

aaf should be already implemented in PT. i don't know how to do the export in PT but it imports great into SX.
