I was given this information regarding the D-Sub, but I'm not too familiar in the area of wiring midi to a 25 pin D-Sub cable.

A midi cable uses 3 pins. (5) Current Sink, (2) Shield, (4) Current Source.

The information regarding the D-Sub is as follows:

MIDI OUT

pin 11 - power
pin 24 - signal

MIDI IN

pin 13+
pin 25-

Does anyone know how to connect all this together?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Dean, I've never wired MIDI to a D-Sub, but based on what you posted, I'd GUESS that:

MIDI OUT

pin 11 - power
pin 24 - signal

MIDI IN

pin 13+ (4) Current Source
pin 25- (5) Current Sink

On the other end, I'm not even willing to guess. But I bet Craig would know. \:\)

Have you tried asking over on SSS?

Odd descriptions on the Dsub. It looks like they kept the power on the top row (pins 11,13) and kept the signals on the bottom row (pins 24,25). Makes sense.

MIDI OUT

(Dsub = MIDI = description)
pin 11 = pin 4 = power
pin 24 = pin 5 = signal

MIDI IN

(Dsub = MIDI = description)
pin 13+ = pin 4 = power
pin 25- = pin 5 = signal

The MIDI IN device (opto-coupler), when wired reverse (pins 13,25) simply won't work. The logic will be held high. It's a diode input that would need at least 20V to damage. Damage should not result.

I think you'll be fine with the pinouts I gave. If you want verification, I'll understand. Good luck.
