Let's see...
. 44100 {Samples per Second} . 32* {Multiply by the Bits per Channel} . 8/ {Divide by 8 to Convert Bits to Bytes} . ====== . 176400 {Bytes per Second for a 32-bit Track} . 60* {Multiply by 60 Seconds} . ========= . 10584000 {Bytes per Minute - Unrounded} . 1.024/ {Round Using Industry 1024/1000 convention}**(see footnote 1) . ========= . 10335937.5 Bytes per Minute (Standard CD or Single 32-Bit Track)
So, . 10335937.5 Bytes per Minute .* 90 Minutes .* 16 Tracks . =========== . 14883750000
That's 14,883,750,000, or roughly 15GB

I record live all the time, with help from Bunny annd Foxtick 18 tracks 44/24 on a 25 gig partition of a Alum 1 gz Powerbook, no problem as long as I remember to wipe the drive before hand! Oh yes and over 90 minutes - closer to 120 or more.

I'd love to hear some of the live stuff you've recorded Henry, maybe a CD trade or something? Send me a PM or email when/if you have time.

Recording thr live stuff is one thing. Mixing it is another!! We did Birth of The cool with trumpeter Ingrid Jensen a few months ago. I've mixed much of that. Thanks for asking Steve. I'll see.

1. Get a second physical drive to record the audio to. Your systme will run much more efficient if it isn't recording the same drive that is running the operating system and the application. A FW400 drive with the Oxford 911 chipset will give you all the performance you need. You can then use the system drive to back up the session immediately after you record it.
2. Record at 24 bit 44.1k, not 16, as the quality will be massively better. A 40gb external drive will be more than adeqate.
3. The 002's 0dbu reference is -14dbfs. Target your nominal (average) levels to that. One of the most common mistakes in digital recording is recording too hot. Especially running 24 bit, at the nominal 0dbu level you attain best audio quality while allowing enough headroom for transient peaks without clipping.
4. Get a good UPS. Not a cheap $50 Radio Shack one, but a real, uninterruptable power supply that regulates voltage and current by delivering constant output regardless of input, and has enough battery power to supply you while you save and backup. Nothing taints your reputation in live recording than getting a power glitch (very commmon in smaller venues) and losing everything.
Backup backup backup. Backup to your internal drive IMMEDIATELY(do a save session as, choosing to save all files) and do a second backup to either another drive or DVD's ASAP. NOTHING is backed up until it is backed up TWICE!!
Good luck.
