Well, it's one way you can contribute... we've all put in various musical contributions over on Nurser's Collaboration Corner forum, and the MP3 of the resulting song is available for downloading at that site.
Make a donation and download the song if you'd like... 100% of donations will go directly to disaster relief. The important thing is that everyone try to help out in some way. Even if you donate through some other organization, that's cool - getting relief to those who so desperately need it is the important thing, so please consider doing what you can, however you can.
Thanks!

I believe it was originally Nurser's idea. I was just one of many contributors. But thanks for your support.

Here's another thought -
Many emplyers will donate $40 or so for flowers at funerals when an immediate family member dies. I suggest asking that the money be donated to the fund Phil O'K mentioned instead.
I just did so for my mother's death on Christmas eve. I know she'd not have wanted the money wasted on flowers that get thrown away 2 hours after the event.

Thanks, Phil!
It's a mind-boggling disaster. I gave some money to Doctors Without Borders, who always seem to be among the first to get into disaster scenes. My relationship with them started back during the NATO intervention in the Balkans, which I supported. A Serbian I'd been arguing with online suggested I put my money where my mouth was and put me on to a link to Doctors w/o Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières to the rest of the non-Francophobe world) who were instrumental at the time in delivering aid to both sides. I was still angry from the argument when I made the contribution, so I guess it just stuck in my mind as a kind of antidote to the kind of free-floating rage I felt about the war and its genocidal promoters. (Not sure what that has to do with anything. I gotta back off on the coffee.)

I gave some money to Doctors Without Borders...
From what little I know of them, a very worthy organization.
I don't care who you folks support, so long as it is a legitimate organization that will get the aid to those in need... I DO appreciate how everyone has been pitching in to help others who are less fortunate. That's the important part.

Thanks! I contributed, although I'm having difficulty with the download. It gets to a point and then just hangs, which is weird because I haven't had difficulty with other downloads today. Hopefully it'll come through.

Eh, crud, it didn't work. That's really strange. I'm always downloading stuff and have never had a problem before....I even was able to stream the 30-second sample, and I didn't have a problem with that...

Yes, that's important - turn any pop-up blocking OFF before atempting to download the file from http://www.Faceoffriendship.org - it should go through fine if you do. Don't forget to turn it back on after you're done.
Ken, so you got the file okay?

Just to keep you folks posted.
On Monday, drove down to a fishing hamlet bout 50kms. from where i live. Was a disastrous sight to see. They were still unearthing bodies when we got there, folks were living in make shift tents. Fresh water & food are the biggest necesities. Clothing they've managed to rumage and isin't exactly the need of the hour. Ready cash for them to spend on say building a house or for buying medicines is the need of the hour. We carried as much raw rice as our car would carry and gave it to them along with some other food items. The stench of decaying human flesh is so strong in the air and gets to you after a while Organised Relief is happening here, but it's moving @ a snail's pace and so am trying to see whether i can work some more stuff out before i head off out of town for a gig tomorrow.

Hey guys, just wanted to bump this thread up to the top again. I'm traveling to Sri Lanka this Friday with a new charity organization I'm helping called DART (Direct Aid Response Team). We sent some people down right after the tsunami to help get supplies to places the Red Cross and UN won't go. We ended up setting up an orphanage and re-establishing fresh water wells to many small towns. I'm going down this time to work on the orphange, rebuild a cultural center, work on some irrigation projects and see what else can be done in the future. We're not done down there by any stretch of the imagination. If you get a chance please check out the website.
http://dartone.org/
There are no administration costs, no board drawing a salary. Even travel expenses are being paid for by the volunteers. So every dollar goes directly to the people most in need !!!!!! Thanks for your time and thanks to Phil for letting me post here.
