All the time, 'cause I'm a shift worker...and a lot of times I'll find myself on the overnite shift.

Hey Tedster. Seems like you use or used to use RME converters. Still? Opinion?

Evening gentlemen. Time on deck is currently 2357 PST.
Sorry I missed you NE-One. Sounds like you are in a similar boat to me. I try to get in here at least a few different times throughout the day, but I do have to sleep, eat, work, etc. My schedule is pretty wacko compared to a lot of people - comes with the job I guess. Because many of my clients have day gigs, I work a lot of afternoons and nights. And once I get done with work, I can't just "shut it off" and drop right to sleep. So I normally will hit the forums after work too. That's when you see me online at 2, 3, 4 AM. And sometimes I can't sleep, and that's when you see me online at 5, 6, even 8 AM. Some days I have to be up earlier than others and you might see me later in the morning, but that's less likely. I'm more likely to be checking in before sessions or on breaks from around the time our friends on the right coast are getting off work, going home, having dinner and getting online.
I've noticed that people tend to post from work a lot. Seriously, when I check in on a weekday during business hours, the boards are busy. Weekends drop off dramatically. And then there's the late shift with people like Tedster. There's almost always someone around, but some hours are certainly busier than others.
I couldn't help but notice you said "possibly soon to be no more studio". I hadn't heard, or maybe you haven't wanted to talk about it, but either way, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything works out okay for you.

Yeah, I guess several of us are in the same boat. I also do most my studio work in the evenings - it's just when people are available. As a benefit, or whatever you want to call it, I can maintain a fairly regular schedule at my other job (the one with health insurance). Two months ago I was at the point of quitting my other job and have the studio as my sole income, now I've run into some problems and it's looking to become a big money pit with zero return, thanks to some newly surfaced physical and isolation (HEAVY construction 100' away that will last until fall - thus eliminating the possibility of daytime sessions) problems. Modifying my present studio to withstand heavy machinery is simply not feesible - not at my rates. Couple with that the fact that 2-3 weeks ago my power mysteriously became practically unusable. Meaning 2 weeks of cancelled sessions, and cancelled sessions for the next 3 weeks out as well since I'm in limbo. After having the power company out and an independent electrician come out to inspect, the culprit has been found and a solution is probable, but not garanteed and could be very expensive (wiring gone bad... "somewhere"...). I had been looking quite hard for a permanent location the last few months and it has been very disheartening. So I very well may cut my losses (somewhat minimal as I've been at this location for 3 years but it was not planned as a permanent location for me), sell off a good lot of my gear and do .... um... I don't know exactly.

Man, that sucks Matt. Any chance you could lease another spot? Or buy something? Or heck, just hold on until the fall when the construction stops?
Like I said, I hope it works out for you somehow. Hang in there.

That's what I've been looking to do for a while. I've been looking for a better location for the studio for about 6 months now since I haven't been satisfied with the current location and layout, and I kind of had the sense that something was going to go down. Know what I mean? Financially, buying a space is not very practical without partnering or something. To be honest, I could find another temporary place, but I have no enthusiasm for temporary, unless we're talking years. Taking a little step down seems practical. Decent homestudio maybe. Wouldn't be able to record the whole bands live if I did that though. I don't know. These problems, setbacks and stress have really put me kind of over the edge and have sapped out the will for running the studio. I don't know, maybe I'm looking for a way out, but then I picture the way my studio should be with me kicked back in my Aeron (which would mean I converted to PT, wouldn't it ) and the right studio setup and smoother sessions... boy sure would be nice to get there still. Just have to play this one out by ear, I suppose.

Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't completely rule out a home studio for doing full bands, though. It can be done, especially if you can use other rooms as "isolation booths" for amps or whatever upon occasion.

I come here way too many times a day. My day starts everyday at 6am. I have a studio in my once garage. 90% of the work I do is just me. I hire singers, but the budgets I get are so low I rarely use other musicians. And the weird thing is when I do use other musicians, most of them have their own studios so I upload tracks to my ftp and they add whatever and then upload to their ftp. It's all e mail and the check's in the mail. We don't even see each other. I'm like the freakin' Maytag repair man.I come here just to try and get away from myself and the jing.

Well, I suppose I could put an amp in the bathroom. Maybe I could build a couple sweet iso boxes for the cabs and have the heads in the tracking room and not get much bleed through. I don't know.

You know, it doesn't take much. Some gobos and some distance. My kitchen, for instance, flows right in to the living room, but it's six feet away. So what I do is aim the amp right into the kitchen, putting it behind some stuff, and I get so much isolation from the drums that I can do overdubs without adversely affecting the sound (although I prefer not to). The guitar cab, if I do that at the same time as the bass and drums, goes in the bedroom. That's pretty much all that's needed.
