Hey JR A, thanks for posting and welcome to the forums.

It would help us if you could describe what you already have available, what type of work you're doing and what the budget is. You're likely to get better responses that way.

I mean, it would be senseless to suggest you pour a bunch of money into a great vocal mic if all you do is instrumental techno tunes. \:D

BTW, happy birthday - a bit early, but what the heck. \:D

Please don't hold my age against me !
I have been performing since 12,
... and collecting my gear painstakingly slowly since then...
few, but only the best I could.

Sounds like you've got some great gear already. I'd vote for a Distressor or two to go with what you've got.

Hey Lee, you have a birthday coming up? Happy B-Day! What do you want for your birthday this year? How about a new drum machine? Oh wait - didn't someone gtet you that last year? ;\) \:D BTW, thanks for stopping by.

JR, oh - you're THAT JR.

I'm not really convinced about the Dangerous 2 Bus yet. Some people love 'em (Jules comes to mind), and some people get good mixes "in the box" with no outside summing. I have not used one extensively, so I'm not qualified to comment either way... but it would definitely be something you should try before you buy to make sure it gives you what you're after.

In my case, I REALLY needed a total recall board, which on my budget means "digital".... and I've been really happy with my Yamaha 01V96. I send up to 8 channels out of it (via lightpipe) into my 002, and use the analog ins on the 002 for my outboard mic preamps. If you're not tracking full bands at once, you may not need all those simultaneous channels, but it's nice to have. It also gives you an additional 16 faders of DAW control surface to control PT. I bring my PT stuff back into the Yamaha via 8 or 9 stereo submixes (stems) and sum in the Yamaha... I can EQ the stems, add effects (4 onboard processors in the 01V96), tweak levels, etc. etc. It's a cool little board and a near perfect match up with the Digi 002.

The Distressor or a FATSO would be a nice addition for you - it's really hard to go wrong with good outboard stuff, and those certainly qualify as such.

Normally when it comes to new gear, I recommend looking at the weakest area of your studio and aiming to improve that. Unfortunately, no one makes a "talent" plug in that I've come across yet, so I'm currently out of luck. ;\) But the advice is still good - look at your system, decide where the weak areas are (I've noticed no dynamic mics listed, but maybe you do have some...) or where you think things could sound or function better and then go from there.

LOL... believe it or not, a drummer friend DID get me that last year - as a joke, of course. I'm not kidding, he really did! \:D

Thanks, uhh, I've been meaning to stop by and say congrats on the new forum and all that! This is way cool! I'm sure I'll be around to harrass you more, don't worry. \:D

And hey, it looks like we will in fact be playing at IPO this summer in L.A.! So WATCH OUT! \:D

Thanks for the congrats. \:\)

I thought I remembered something about someone giving you a drum machine as a gag gift last year! \:D ROTFL!

You guys are gonna do IPO? That's SO cool! I've been meaning to hook up with those folks, and while I've got a few of their CD's, I really have not checked out IPO, and it's probably right up my alley from what I've seen and what people have told me... so since What The...? is going to be playing, I have no excuse - I CAN'T miss that! Please keep me posted when you find out about dates, times, location (The Joint?) etc...

Dear Mr Potatoe:

I've heard your stuff. You don't need a box to make you sound good. However, I think if we could find a way to dismember you, cover the various parts in colored plastic and then box that, we might have a hit product on our hands. ;\)

JR, dont overlook the possiblity that a new sound source/instrument might be a better investment than new recording gear.
Good sound starts at the source.

For instance, Ive got a major B'day in May.
Im thinkiing I'll buy a sax (used to play one in HS)to replace my sampled sax sounds. ( and my wife thinks they're sexy \:D )
