hey phil,

using the adat/optical out of the rme, I go to the digi's ADAT/optical input on the PCI card.....then do I then need a second adat/optical cable to go from the digi pci card's output, then back to the rme's input (a loop) in oreder to utilize the D/A section of the rme?

Casey's absolutely right - each lightpipe cable carries up to 8 channels of audio data, but in only one direction. If you want to use both "sides" (A->D / D->A), then you'll need two optical cables.
