4stringaxeman,

There is no such animal as sound proofing foam - it doesn't work - and it doesn't exist - and any company that is advertising their material in that manner either doesn't have a clue or is deliberately misleading their clients.

Roofing foam is no exception -

by the way - whose roofing foam are you talking about? I know that the firestone foam made for roof insulation is combustible - so if you're speaking about a particular maufacturer whose product is not (I am not aware of any) then you should name that manufacturer to save people from spending trying to locate someone.

Sincerely,

Rod

UK

Try this: Knauf Rocksilk

The variant number indicates the approximate density in Kg/m3. RS100 is roughly equivalent to OC 705 in that respect.

Easier to find than OC or Rockwool and available to order from most large builders merchants.

(Somebody please let me know if it's unsuitable and I'll delete this post)

I'll second an earlier poster's recommendation of API in Roseville (N suburb of St. Paul) Minnesota. Nice folks there, and will sell small qtys down to a single piece.
$1.17/sf for 2" OC 703; $2.12/sf for 2" OC 705.

And another Twin Cities source:
Tri-Star Insulation
6095 East River Road, Fridley MN (N suburb of Minneapolis)
763-502-9977
Also good to work with for small qtys, although the smallest unit they sell is a bundle.
I got 8 pcf mineral wool for $0.62/sf.
They have Knauf rigid fiberglass board, but higher price than API.

Also read with interest an old post on ultratouch cotton insulation, did a search and found that there's a dealer only 3 miles away from me! So I will have to check out Acoustical Surfaces, Inc. The cotton looks like a good way to go; great acoustical properties, and looks like shredded blue jeans!

I've been trying to find Johns Manville Spin-Glas Board in Reno. Can't even find a price. Look at the specs for the 2" 8 pcf boards: 125 .38, 250 .93, 500 1.10, 1K 1.07, 2K 1.07, 4K 1.07, NRC 1.05. Much better than several other products.

Bayinsulation.com

They carry all the OC, Roxul, etc. AND the "weighted vinyl" soundproofing sheet that Auralex sells, which the rep described as "awesome". Great location, Garland off LBJ & NW Highway. Got 12 pcs. of 703 for $119, great price.

Please note that they are primarily a wholesaler & to-the-trade resource, but the sale manager said they'd welcome small orders - they do sell to the home theater construction industry and know the business. I'd suggest you respect that, and don't get too "consumery" when you call; could put an end to a good thing. Know what you want and don't quiz 'em too much - do your research here.

Their main warehouse is in Tyler, TX, so it can take a few days to get stuff in if not in stock; mine took 24 hrs.
