Hello,

I'm redoing my little basement project studio and was wanting everyones advice on how to lay it out and where to place my bass traps and high/mid absorbers. Please take a look at this site and let me know what you think. Any help is appreciated!

My Project Studio

Thanks again!

Doug

This is refreshingly embarassing. If you are currently working on improving the acoustics for listening purposes, everything you have done/shown is fine! Are you planning to put any absorbent the ceiling to stop initial reflections?

I hadn't planned on it, the ceiling tile is the 1" rigid fiberglass type. Should I place another panel directly above the mixing console or angle it off the corner in front of the console?

Also, do I need the panel behind me on the far wall next to the stairs? Does the section of the room where the drums are (in the diagram) need any diffusers? I'd like to keep that portion of the room a little livelier.. And one more thing, how about the corner on the stair landing?

My wife is gonna kick my butt...

Thanks!
Doug

Doug,

As Andre said, you're off to a good start. I will mention that you need a lot more than the two bass traps in the front corners.

Not necessary. If you already have rigid fiberglass on the entire ceiling, you're all set. Though you could lay 6-12 inch thick fluffy fiberglass on top of the ceiling to extend the absorption to lower frequencies.

Where do you suggest I place more bass traps? Since the room only has three corners I wasn't sure where else I could place them. Also, I do have the fluffy insulation on top.. \:D

BTW I just wanted to say, I'm a newbie here but not a newbie to internet forums or music and I have to say this is one of the most helpful forums I've seen in a long time. It's nice to see experts sharing their knowledge with everyone.

I've logged a lot of studio time (and money) back in the 80's but since the PC recording revolution, it's nice to be able to take 200 takes to get a track right. On the downside though is it's hard to put a project to bed...

Thanks again!
Doug

Doug,

In the wall/ceiling corners, especially at the top of the rear wall. Wall/floor corners are great too if you have any places you can put them where they won't get kicked or stepped on.

Great.

Thanks - we're sure trying!
