703 = 48 kg/m^3
705 = 96 kg/m^3
RW2 = 32 kg/m^3
RW3 = 48 kg/m^3
RW4 = 64 kg/m^3

One pound per cubic foot equals 16 kilograms per cubic metre.

xl,

Andre gave you the fiberglass and rock wool equivalents. Also see the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page:

These are the products I found in Germany. Only the kg per m^3 is of importance as long as it is 'Mineralwolle' bzw. 'Steinwolle'.

- Heraklith Heralan DP-5 bzw. DP-10
- Rockwool Termarock 50 bzw. Termarock 100
- Isover ?????

As you can see from the numbers they should have 50kg/m^3 and 100kg/m^3

I am sure Isover got some fitting products but I don't know which ones...

Also I would like to know which of these options is the cheapest...

- Jules

thank you alot guys... i wanted to build a wall out of two walls of brickearth stones(they have good isolating impact) and i wanted an airgap between them and the fiberglass inside that airgap...what do you think?...

how much should be the space between the two walls where the fiberglass comes in?

i read in your article etahn its better to have more air and the fiberglass kinda "free" so it can oscilate ...

i have been at the isover site...they sont have that much mass in their fiberglass its way lighter...but nevertheless they say its better...im thinking of combining the brick with
"akusto 10" fiberglass, anyone has experience??

thanks for your help.

p.s. jules your kinda everywhere...thats cool, lookin foreward to meet you at aes berlin...

That is a good design. whatever you do, try to make the two walls of different thicknesses. This to avoid mutual resonant frequencies.

Only you can answer that. How isolation do you want and how much are willing to use? For every doubling of the space, the overall transmission loss will increase by 5 dB.

Could you give a link or URL? Although I don't read other languages effectively (well, I am fluent in Estonian) I and others can probably figure out a lot from studying the information and how it is presented.

I noticed that you mentioned the AES convention. Does this mean that you have some technical background in engineering? If you do there is a isolation calculator (INSUL) from Marshall Day Acoustics that can give you a good idea of what the isolation will be. The demo only lets you enter gyprock as wall material, but you can change the material properties. Change the density of the material and make the wall one layer of the thickness of the wall. To start concrete is around 2160 kg/m^3.

I have some articles about concrete wall isolation but not the URLS. If you had your email address up I would have sent those to you.

This article may help you with understanding isoaltion:

Sound Isolation

Good luck!

hmm. so lets say if i keep an airgap of 30 cm and put the fiberglass close to one wall, or even stick it with on of the walls...does this change the thickness of a wall? because both walls would be from the same stones= same thickness same everything... so it would be like

| | #| |
stones,airgap,fiberglass,stones... also im thinking if it is worth to get that isover akusto 10 which 10cm thick...but im not sure about its mass...or should i get usual fiberglass with 100kg/cm³ ??

another question is the doors...is it any good, to take fiberglass put it in a linencloth and build stillage around it and attach that to the door? i know its a poors man method...but this would do isltaion work for the door as well...wouldnt, it?? thx again...
