Hello Ethan,
Thank you for this forum. I would like to build my first fiberglass bass traps for my listening room which measures 15'wide by 22'long and has a flat ceiling height of 7'4". When vertically corner mounting 4" thick 705 insulation, is it necessary to run it floor to ceiling? For aesthetic reasons, i would prefer to put 4' in each corner.

Dan,

Sure, that will work. If you eventually decide you need more, you can add them then. Or add more in other corners like the wall/ceiling junctions.

In the rear corners of my listening room, I have built floor to ceiling (I reserve the right to change my mind) face frames (a face frame is the front face of a cabinet) to hold RHT 80 Industrial across the corners. To save space they are narrow, but will hold insulation 15 and 1/2 inches wide floor to ceiling. Should I bevel some insulation to fill the entire corner which has a total depth of 11 inches?
The front corners will be treated in a similar manner but because of existing built-in cabinetry these will only be 54 inches tall.

Another question From reflection free zone:

"Any location in which you can see either loudspeaker in the mirror should be covered with absorption. It's a good idea to treat a larger area of the wall than you identify with the mirror."

From my listening position, using a mirror on the side wall, the distance between where I can "see" the right speaker and the left speaker is 3 feet.
The drivers on the speakers are 30 to 42 inches off the floor.
How large an area, total width and height, on these side walls should be covered with absorption? Additionally, working with the product I have, should I use the RHT 80 one and a half inches thick on these side wall reflections or 3 inch? Andre was twisting my arm to use 3 inch, what do you recommend Ethan?
Thanks Guys,
Dan

As you know, many people read these posts, and not all of them can follow a line of discussion without references tot he links or at least quotes.

What I wrote was:

Quote:
Please look over the absorption data in the "70x Absorption" and think about using 3" instead of 2" thick material. Both will help alot, but the 3" does much more on the low end.
in the thread:
This may also be useful

As anyone reading the entire thread will see, there was no "arm twisting" only options being recommended with data showing the reasoning.

Please, when referring to what people have written, quote then directly and try and give links to the the thread so that people who want more information can get a good start.

How are the frames coming?

frames are coming along very slowly.
i am a trial and error - rebuild designer.
a real trophy winning second guesser.
i also have sudden nerve palsy in my left hand which does not help at all but that is another story.
anyhow, the rear floor to ceiling corner frames are built. next i will build the front corner frames.
do you have any input on how much insulation to put in the corner - 4 inches with a space behind or fill the entire corner in?
i am really struggling with the design of the side wall reflection absorbing frames.
how wide, how tall, how thick, and how to make it relatively decorative?
i would appreciate advice from any wanting to give.

peace,
dan
