I'm building bass traps based on Ethan's design. On checking with the lumber yard, I find that 1/4 and 1/8" AC plywood are considerably more expensive than the same sizes with mahogany veneer on the outside!

Since the vibration of the ply is what draws energy from the sound wave, is there any reason I should go with the more expensive AC (pine) rather than with the mahogany veneer glued to pine ply?

Thanks.

I used lauan (likely the mahogany you are talking about), which does not cup like pine. If you figure out the pricing difference among sheet goods, it's really not significant, provided you stay away from Cherry, Birch and similar facncy wood finishes.

LF,

As Bill said, Luan is fine. That's what I've always used.
