Well I'm just trying to 'master' stereo mixes in the 'garage' environment so to speak...
After months of reading, yacking, 703, speaker positioning, measuring, etc - I'm beginning to think I don't want the perfect room at all (don't think thats possible anyway) I just want to be in control of it, more or less, and use the parts that hype the sound to my advantage.
It's kind of like being able to bend the wave under the microscope to get a closer look at a particular section, like if I want to get into the bass more then move away from the nearfields & walk around. Step into a peak, move thru a valley. Holy Cow Alex, can I buy a clue here !
hehe, That's why you read about MEs standing in the hallway or outside with the door cracked...
I 'discoved' this while comparing headphones, of all things, and the cool HD600 senns I just bought. My wife let me try her DT770's which really hype the bass and hi-mids...and I thought - well these aren't very flat I can really hear (and feel or get a sensation somehow) that something is off in my EQ compared to a commercial cut...hmmm lightning stikes...
So anyway - I guess that's really Sound101 every good sound man gets up and walks the room...
But if I was recording then I wouldn't want any resonances and would go for a mostly flat room I think.

I don't consider myself to be much of a mastering engineer. But the notion of standing in a hallway to hear how your mix really sounds seems pretty backwards to me.
