Hi Ethan, I'm going to add some acoustic treatment (Mini Traps) to my bedroom studio and would like to hear your opinion on how many I need. My room is rather small (16,7 ft x 8,2 ft) but very high (11 ft). I have some Auralex foam on the side walls but no bass traps and I'd like to know what else I need to do besides putting up some Mini Traps. Will it make sense to put some Traps inside the booth as well?
Thanks for your help,
Martin

Martin,
Specific RealTraps sales questions are better handled by email. But briefly, the general recommendation for most small rooms is eight MiniTraps. With your high ceilings a few more will help even more if your budget allows.
Yes, your booth also needs absorption. Since you already have some foam you could move some or all of that to the booth.
If you have any follow-up questions, please email me from the Contact page of our web site.
Thanks.

Thanks Ethan, and sorry about posting this on the forum - I didn't want to make you look like a shameless salesman!
Anyway, I still have a question about my booth, which might be interesting for other forumites, as well. You said I should add some bass trapping inside as well as some foam. The booth is also used as my closet for my clothes and has carpet on the walls and floor and some foam on the ceiling. When I record a guitar cab, it sounds very boomy (which will probably be less of a problem once I add some bass traps) and boxy/phased due to it's small size. Is there something I can do about this, like removing the carpet from the floor? I can't record guitars anywhere else in my apartment without pissing off all my neighbors, so I have to figure out a way to improve what I have. Would something like a resonator help to "add size" to my both and make my recordings sound a little more open. Excuse me if I ask some stupid questions here, but I discovered the importance of proper room treatment only recently, and I'm willing to invest some money to get good results, but I want to do it right.
Thanks for your patience,
Martin

Martin,

You could try that. A reflective floor with all other surfaces absorbent is probably your best compromise. But basically, if all you have is a small room, then it's going to sound like a small room. I wish I had something more encouraging to offer.

Thanks Ethan, I didn't expect a perfect solution, but I'll try to remove the carpet. I'm only recording close miced rock/metal guitars, so I need no obvious room sound, but I'm aware that you'll still be able to hear the room size. I'll see if it works, otherwise I'll have to book a studio to record guitars.
Cheers,
Martin
