Thursday - did our acoustic show in Cadillac, good crowd, kept me up late.
FRIDAY: Worked in the AM, Got the band gear packed up and headed off to the show. About ten minutes from the guitarists' house, the truck stopped. Out of gas? Maybe. Called the guitarist's dad who brought us gas but no, it wasn't out of gas. Stood on side of freezing cold road in leather skirt and flame tights, while a lady came out of her house and said, "Wow, I have a band in my yard!". She let me use her bathroom, which was mighty nice of her. The fuel pump wasn't working. Took the trailer hitch off our truck, went back to Ton's dad's house, and he put the trailer hitch on his truck. Hooked up, and hauled it for the venue.
We arrived at the show at 9:30, when we were supposed to start. The staff was understanding but our sound tech had been doing shots while waiting for us so she was hammered. Called to arrange a ride home for her. Set up the entire show in half an hour (usually takes two hours) and began to play. Even intoxicated, our sound tech was on it all night and was a big factor in us sounding tight with no sound check.
The crowd was good, lots of cheering and clapping for the originals which always makes me SMILE. Met the manager of another local bar who bought our CD and T-shirt and promised to call.
Last set ....Observed from stage, while singing, ten cops of various state and county colors cruise into the show, and drag three people out the door. Kept playing. Heard from people the next day that it was the biggest drug bust in Benzie county history, at a house down the street. They showed the bar's facade on TV. I shamelessly asked if you could see our gig sign on the door.
Saturday morning ... Had truck towed to repair shop, used borrowed truck to get groceries and etc.
Saturday night .. Got the son off to the prom, new buttons on the jacket, ironed, pressed, and spiffy. Gave him a few extra $$ for his date's flowers. Got the daughter off to her babysitting job. Asked the folks she was babysitting for to cruise by the house a couple times while we were at the show, as my son and his friends knew we'd be gone till dawn and we live near the school. When your 17 year old son has a hot date and changes his own sheets before the date, mom starts to sprout grey hairs.
No drug busts on Saturday. Another good crowd and the bar gave us a raise and covered our dinner and drinks, because they liked the show so much. Some of my cronies came out, and proceeded to buy me shots of tequila for my birthday. I'm not used to drinking these days - usually have one or two the whole night - so by the fourth set Cherri was a teeny bit loose. Paul, who wasn't drinking at all, said I performed fine but I much prefer to stay in control than to get as loose as I did. Not to mention, how I was going to feel Sunday. Made sure to eat something on the way home.
Sunday ... Took borrowed truck back. Slept. Watched news coverage of the drug bust. Couldn't see our gig sign.
So today, after work, we are picking up the truck and hopefully it'll be all better. Time to start shopping for a vehicle with less mileage. But in four years of towing the trailer to gigs, it's the first time the truck has broken down. I'm very pleased with it's performance.

That certainly was a tale worthy of being recounted. Thanks!

Erik, you've got some competition... Sounds like fun, Cherri! Glad your soundperson was still coherent enough to work, that would've been a major worry for me. Our gig? Saturday we started to a club that had three people in it, was about half full when we finished, not a single dancer all night, as we were tearing down someone plugged the jukebox and two girls started dancing to some rap. Ugh. If you're in need of a keyboard player someday call me!

Congrats Cherri....
Our Sat. gig was at one of our favortie places to play (We have a monthly gig there) at it went well too. At one point we had a birthday party bus come in with a whole bunch of wild drunken partiers in it which made for a wild hour or so. Had a radio disc jocky from Portland Ore. come in and buy 4 CD's..... It was one of those gigs where you just feel solid.....

BriBaby, it was the Sleepy Bear in Honor. Not much to look at from the outside, but designed for live music.
Jeff - the boy also got suspended for trying to crash the afterprom. But as I told my hubby, if that' the only trouble he gets in his whole high school career, I'm not sweating it too much.
I picked up my truck last night. Kudos to the garage, they had it done in a day at a reasonable cost.

Nice... Vehicle issues really suck, but at least you were in town when it happened... and had a back-up.
And you pulled off the gigs under duress. That's the way it's done, Cherri. But you knew that.

Excellent report of a very full weekend, Cherri! You just might be a redneck if you are more worried about the condition of the truck than the fact that your kid changed his own sheets before a big date!

The latest and greatest:
Because the drive was so long, and the venue in Mt. Pleasant had a house PA and their own sound tech, we all met up and loaded our amps, drums, and backline so that we could all ride together and save gas. Got to the show, and found out that college let out LAST week, and Mt. Pleasant was a ghost town! Nonetheless we had a reasonably steady crowd. For some reason, all the chicks in the bar wanted to hug me, even the obligatory weeping drunk girl in the bathroom at last call.
My new amp sounded amaingly wonderful and I can't imagine I ever gigged without it. I've finally learned to sing & play at the same time, now I have to work on singing, playing, and hitting the foot switch at the same time.
We were done loading up by two, so we hit a drive through and started for home. But alas, the new alternator in the truck only works in the daytime. The headlights began to drain the battery. We hit a rest area to use the bathrooms, and the truck wouldn't start back up. We slept for a few hours until daylight, found someone to jump the vehicle, and made it home by 10AM.
Nothing like sleeping in a truck to make you feel very, very old the next day.
