(I recently posted this on the SSS forum, but I thought it deserved reposting here.)
Use this handy points system to evaluate potential bandmates.
Positives:
Punctual +5
Polite and considerate +4
Available when needed +6
Fun and interesting +5
Plays well +7
Listens well +8
Patient +7
Prepares for rehearsals and shows by practicing at home +6
Learns quickly +5
Has a car +3
Has pickup truck +4
Has large van or SUV +5
Has good gear +4
Has backup gear +3
Uses appropriate recreational substances +2
Brings appropriate recreational substances and shares +3
Consumes substances moderately +4
Helps with expenses +3
Has appropriate appearance for the band +3
Brings an audience to the shows +6
Gets gigs +6
Helps sell tix, distribute flyers etc. +4
Looks real good, is the opposite sex from the rest of the band, flirts just a teeny bit, but its all in good fun +2
Has a place to play +6
Has a PA system +5
Has recording equipment +3
Negatives:
Brags -3
Brags about famous people he/she knows -5
Is bitter because the famous people he/she knows stole his/her ideas -7
Has frequent problems with his/her gear -3
Blames his/her gear when he/she makes a mistake -4
Brings appropriate recreational substances but doesn't share -7
Uses inappropriate substances -3
Abuses substances -5
Doesn't use substances but gives lectures and/or makes self righteous facial expressions everytime someone else uses -4
Whines -3
Is already in four other bands -4
Frequently denigrates former bandmates -3
Frequently denigrates bandmates in other bands -4
Frequently denigrates your bandmates when they are out of the room -5
Frequently denigrates your bandmates when they are in the room -6
Gets in fist fights with your bandmates -7
Gets in arguments with workers at nightclubs where you are gigging -5
Gets in fistfights with workers at nightclubs where you are gigging -7
Routinely more than 15 minutes late -2
Routinely more than 25 minutes late -4

Misses rehearsals with good excuses ("Sorry, I spaced it out man" does not qualify as a good excuse)-4

Always broke, but has a girlfriend -3
Always broke, but doesn't have girlfriend -5

Brings significant other (S.O.) to rehearsal, S.O. spends the whole time scowling -6
Brings significant other (S.O.) to rehearsal, S.O. gives a critique after every song -9
Brings significant other (S.O.) to rehearsal, S.O. gives a critique after every song criticizing everyone but the one who brought him/her -12
