I bought GIG when Quint Randle was editor many many moons ago and then when it was resurrected with Bill Evans and even til it's end with Jimmy Leslie. It was always the best magazine on the market. Billy Mitchell's columns on the back page were always great. And I loved when they were a gigging musician's mag with no big stars, just cats that gig for a living. There is no other magazine like it. Onstage and FOH ain't the same at all. I am so glad I saved all the issues, even from the Quint days. Information that is still good today. Thanks GIG for the best mag ever and hope it is resurrected again someday.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken they had a HUGE resource on touring Europe that I've been looking for the last couple of years.

I agree that Gig was great, and its demise is a shame.

Side note: Bill Evans is now the editor of a magazine called FOH (Front of House). I talk to him regularly at trade shows and similar events.

Jimmy Leslie still writes for Guitar Player.

I received Gig to fill out my subscription to Musician when that great magazine went under. I never warmed up to Gig, but I miss Musician magazine a lot.

Same thing happened to me. Musician was a GREAT mag, Gig was OK.

I thought Gig in the early days was the best performing musician magazine I'd ever read or heard about -- I kept most of them in several of those magazine boxes from Office Depot as references.

It really went to hell in the final year or so -- started being every other music magazine.

I would have thought the original market for that mag was a great untapped area -- apparently not. Oh well, whaddya gonna do?

I liked it, but it was aimed at a market segment that can't afford luxuries like magazines.
