I've got an audition with an artist coming up. A current two piece band whose looking for a bass player and a little keyboards. I fit the bill and hope I'm a good fit. The last few times I've done this I've tensed up a bit. What do you all do to relax and be yourself at these things?

I've done this a lot this year and honestly I'm never very relaxed in those situations. It isn't too bad if i get a list of stuff to learn beforehand and make sure I know what tuning the songs are played in.

Preparation.
Do you know all of their material? In their keys? Their rendition? Background vocals? Do you do any leads? Are you prepared to do any leads if asked?
If you can do all of this, then you have nothing to worry about. Have a good time.

Yeah, preparation, and other than that, I can't stay relaxed. I rarely do auditions, for that reason. There are a lot of better players out there than me...I prefer to play with people I know, who know my overall strengths.
Auditioning players is like having a one night stand with the hottest girl in the bar...you give her a whirl based on her looks and then find in the morning that you were looking at her through serious "beer goggles". Likewise you go with the best player, only to find out he's undependable, or an asshole, or something of the like.
Another thing to remember is that while they're auditioning you, you'll be auditioning them, too. Do you really want to work with these guys?

I agree with Tedster.
First, understand that you will always be somewhat nervous. You wouldn't have an adrenalin gland ... if you weren't!
I try to remind myself that all folks get up and put their pants on the same way in the morning. No one is ... *that* special!
And as Tedster says, you are auditioning the other guys as well.
The main thing! Be Prepared and HAVE FUN!

Hmmmm, I find it helpfull to immediately start calling people out. Its especially favorable to call the drummers momma out, then the guitarist. For a extra special touch, crap your pants before you go and treat em all to some stank. Then put your hand in your pocket and play some good-ol-fashioned "pocket pool",this of coarse being after you've announced that your gay. Seriously, Get a setlist from these a-holes.Ive been to auditions w/ prog bands, and they're like,"just listen, you'll feel it".Then they proceed playing some kind of twelvetone row.F-that! Remember boyscouts? Be prepared. Hope that helps

Well, I'd say be as prepared as possible. If you can get some music to learn beforehand that's always helpful. Just be yourself and have fun.
