Feasibly, we could all get gigs by learning the same songs. Or even keep some audiences happy with a 4 set long version of Freebird (HAHAHA)

But, seriously, how often do you all add new tunes? When a new tune isn't working, what do you do, keep working on it 'til it does, or move on to the next tune?

Well, my band plays original music, so we;d add one whenever we create a song. We won't really add it until we have every part finished, though.

We work on our idea..and most of our ideas have become songs.

If a tune didn't work out, we'd probably just drop it like a rock.

We TRY to add two songs or more a month, but we'd like to add more. Some tunes that we've tried for a while get sandbagged but we try to come back to them after a while and see if we can make them work.

Fortunately, we have two strong vocalists (male/female), so if one isn't doing well on a song, usually the other one will. Our male had trouble on "Summer of 69" so we bagged it for a good 6 months. I started playing it one night at practice and out of nowhere the female started singing it. WOW! It's her song now.

Of course, some songs never see the light of day again after we destroy them the first time \:\)

I have three or four on the back burner at all times. since I have to teach the guys all of the new material , I make sure I know all of the parts way in advance. usually we get two added each month.

When we first got together, we learned a bajillion songs right away. We had gigs booked pretty quickly and a lot of them were all-nighters, so we had to have 4 sets' worth of stuff in a hurry. That was cool because it made us jell as a band pretty quickly with all that intense playing.

After that, we still kept adding songs as we felt like it, or of course, if one of us wrote one. We've only learned a few new ones in the last 6 months or so, we've been concentrating on getting the CD finished. But now that it's done we're getting back into writing mode and hope to have a bunch of new originals soon. So I guess it kinda ebbs and flows.

When I first got back into playing live gigs I learned one hell of a lot of songs in a hurry and more when I started playing with a band. Since then I do more solo work and add new songs fairly often but somewhat inconsistently. It's mostly when something new comes up that I really want to write, collaborate on or steal, uh, er, cover.
I try to maintain my current playlist at about 100 tunes so I will let some drop off when the new stuff comes into play though those old, semi forgotten songs sometimes still crop up. I acually just move them to the back of the master set list page so I don't often get to that page.

We're probably adding between 4-6 songs per month. They typically replace the ones we don't do well, or are just requested. We try to accomodate our crowd as much as possible.
