"For the Band" Friends,
I've heard from a lot of you, both on the forums and via private communications, asking what I've been doing since I parted ways with TASCAM.
Well, after much soul searching (and searching through the couch for spare change), I came to a conclusion. After more than ten years (great years, may I add) of working for companies in the music/audio manufacturing industry, I realized that what my career was lacking was control.
Control means being able to do great work and benefit from it directly. It means that you can choose your own destiny. It means that you have the freedom to work as much or as little as I want (though being a workaholic by nature, I find it more difficult to do nothing than to keep zooming along). It also means that my success is not tied to factors that I can't control...market conditions, technological changes and so on.
So, about a month ago, I started putting together my own company, doing the job I've always done but now on an independent basis. So, I'm pleased and rather proud to introduce my company, Jeff Klopmeyer Communications, to my friends and colleagues here on the forums.
I won't waste your time with a spammy list of my services...if you want to know the details, you can visit my web site (link in sig below). But so far, things are going very well...I've done several new ads for companies that you'll see in upcoming issues of magazines like Keyboard and EQ. I've taken on a few other projects that go beyond the scope of music/audio companies, which is a nice breath of fresh air for me.
I have no pretentions of greatness...building a business is hard, hard work. It will likely be a couple of years before I can move into my own offices or hire any full-time help. But hopefully, it will continue to build and grow to the point where I can legitimately call myself a successful entrepreneur. And, like I told my wife, if worse really comes to worse, I'll just have to do the unthinkable and get a job.
For now, though, I'm very satisfied with the development thus far. In any case, now you know what I'm doing, and if you want to find out more, you can visit my site or drop me a line. Thanks for reading this lengthy post (which I'll also place on the other forums I frequent).
- Jeff

Thanks Tom & Steve!
The hardest thing about getting off the ground is that everything you do, you have to do for the first time. Want a website? Wait, have to design the logo first. Need to invoice a client? Wait, gotta set up my accounting software. Want a business card? Gotta get the new phone line installed to print the right number on the card. It goes on and on.
But it feels fulfilling. I can work at 1:00am if that's when I feel like doing good creative work. I can take my kid to the park at 2:00 in the afternoon if that's a good time to do so.
Thanks again for the well wishes!
- Jeff
