Hey Al, Thanks for speaking the truth regarding your comments on Napster!! It's hard enough, for many of us, to even try to carve out a career in this biz let alone giving our work away for free!!!! If the day comes when everything is free then we can give all our songs away for free!! Untill that day however, We have to pay our bills. This is a no brainer!!

Chris..Chris..Chris..Do you realize what a can of worms you are RE-opening Here? You have just left yourself open to a holy flame war! Trust me, there are no winners here.
There are three sides to the napster debate. There is the sonwriters side: Songwriters trying to make a living off of the "cuts" they own the creative rights to. All they want to do is make a living writing songs. Is that too much to hope for?
There is the neo-artist side: Performers wanting to get a deal, but their music doesn't fit the "mold" of what the industry is looking for. After all, it is easier to assume an artist that sounds like everything else on the radio will sell faster and easier than someone with a different, or new sound. These people need Napster to get an fan-base.
Then there is the listener: Most of them want something for nothing, and will go to any length to get it for free (but don't take my word for it. Go to the napster board and read the posts there). But there is a serious base of people looking for eclectic or out of print music they can't find anywhere else.
Regardless of what I have said in the past, there's no right or wrong here (right or wrong being a "thing" our parents talked about, but is too intangible for some of us to grasp), there is only what people want and can get with the least amount of effort.
This has pretty much been played to death, and you may get no other response than mine, just prepare youself for a personal onslaught. Peace easy jp

JP, Thanks for the reply... you have some great points!! I'm Always open to others ideas! I realized the word "truth" was not quite the word I was looking for. Hey, it was early with no coffee. I agree with you that there are always other sides to the story etc... Let's just say that I think Al has a good insight toward this matter! I think there has been a lot of good dialog in other magazines as well - Gig, mix, Performing songwriter...etc... Who knows what the future will bring. Maybe it will all work out.
