Al,
I've started producing several unsigned bands. What is the best way to profit from them if they get signed? Or if they don't get signed. Points on the record or a percentage of the signing?

points on the record aRE INAPPROPRIATE just for producing the demos. You should get paid for doing the demos and the better they are, the better a chance you have of doing the actual record. Greddy record companies however, almost NEVER use the guy who did the demos. They want the heavy hitters to protect their investment. Just get paid for your work doing the demos. And always do your best, natch...

If you can get paper with them include a clause that says you do the album. At least you'll get some buy out money when the label calls for the heavy hitters. And always do your best like al says or you won't become a heavy hitter.
