I am a composer/sound designer/songwriter/singer/producer/bassist.
I met with a potential manager. He suggested I put together a list of what I expect a manager to do. Any suggestions about what should be on the list?

Jeez - lets start with only take 10%
that'll separate the men from the boys.

A manager should use his best efforts to secure the most pretigous employment for you that does not compromise your integrity. He should also attend to all matters that keep you from getting those jobs done with the exception of your personal bank accounts and your spouse. There it is in a nutshell

Thanks for your reply! The particular manager I am talking to has offered a 90- 10
split. However being in the state of Calif.
where there are laws concerning a manager
procuring employment, as opposed to an agent.
Would you say it would be a manager's job to
obtain a deal with an agent or agency?
Or how would this work? The procuring of
employment I mean.

I've had a manager in the state of California
hook me up with an agent. Why not? A good manager usually has a team that has worked for him/hwer in the past. They might want to keep those players in place to repeat past successesi.e. publicists, road managers, etc.
