One of the members of our band may be moving out of state when his gig with the Marines is up, and he says that he doesn't want the band to carry on using it's current name without him. True, we're not very established yet, but we do have a small following and would hate to lose them because they get trown for a loop with a name change. There's no legal paperwork involved over the group name or anything like that. What would you do? change your name when he goes, or keep carrying on when he leaves...after all, he's probably to cheap to fight it? Input highly appreciated.

if there's no papers signed, its simple. Majority rules, he loses/ H O W E V E R if he came up with the name, morally he should keep it. The golden rule works well here... What if it was YOU?

wow, the good doctor didn't mince words. he is exactly right, and you have to do what is right...NOW, that said, let's look at this thing a little closer. did he come up with the name? was he the manager? will he start a band in his new place of residence and use the name? how would you feel about that? do you really think you will loose your fans if you change names? I have changed the name of the band in the middle of a set and threatened to charge a new cover. I have changed the name of the band because I replaced one person. at this point I don't think it is an issue. but to be sure, let the remaining members vote. that way it is a collective decision and not one you have to accept total responsibility for
