In your opinion, when is it necessary to get a booking agent/promoter? Our band has been having trouble breaking into the tight market in our area and we've been talking about getting someone to handle our gig getting to try and give ourselves more leverage. Do you think that this would be worthwhile, or should we just keep plugging along? We're fairly new to the scene (since May 2000). Let me know what you think...

chances are, a booking agent would not take on a band thats been together 4-5 mos. AND is having trouble working.
When I was coming up (albeit in the 50's) we played at churches & temples and clubs in nearby states. We just pushed ourselves on as many people as possible until a few gave in. That advice is probably still good today.
Be ambitious !
