Al, after reviewing your top 100, I have just one question: No Joni??? Not Blue or Canyon?

Also (this is only a quasi-question), I'm assuming you didn't include Dylan because you played on some (e.g. Highway 61) - but did you not include Blood on the Tracks because of lack of production values or because of performance?

Stu

P.S. The auditorium at Fermilab, out west of Chicago and sitting on top of some type of atom accelerator and next to a field of Buffalo, is an excellent venue. I just saw Odetta there.

P.P.S. Can't WAIT for the Bloomfield CDs and the box set!!

In a Top 100 ya cant get em all and ya cant please everybody; so ya gotta please yourself. I'm quite pleased (it was a great deal of work to compile) and evidently quite a few people went out and listened to some things they'd never heard before and that in itself made the exercise successful for me.

The Charles Mingus box set was a great tip - I think that was yours - at least it came out of that issue. Anyone wanting to be vexed by an amazing recording done in the 50s should take a listen, and the genius of the material can't be beat.

Al, I was very pleased to see you included Free "Highway" on your list. This has been my favorite album since it came out, but it didn't sell (a disappointment that led to their breakup and to rock cliche`s for those guys IMHO). Since its hard to find -- I have a Japanese CD -- and never talked about, I thought I was the only fan of this work. The whole thing still holds up: songwriting, vocals, bass lines!, guitar work (a '59 LP BTW), and the engineering. Thanks for remembering it and for any further comments you may have about it.

FREE is my favorite band of all time. Their brand of white-soul-groin music is about as good as it gets. I think the fact that all their abilities were equal is what made them great. There was no standout - they were all equally adept and great team players. There's a book due soon and a 5 CD box set out now in the UK. Rock on, Scott
