Dr. Al, Being a fan of early Lynyrd Skynyrd, I have read that Ronnie Van Zant was a skilled and assertive task master, able to coax the best performances out of his band while in the studio. Did he rule by an iron fist, gentle coaxing, or screaming fits. I have had several situations where bandmembers approach recording projects with mixed preparedness. This usually leads to harsh words and hard feelings, and the quality of the performance suffers. Since I have never handled this situation properly (i.e. subtle diplomacy instead of hot-headedness), perhaps you could enlighten me without sending me to a psychology course. Thanks

Ronnie did rule with an iron fist and a fear manifesto, but NOT in the studio. He prepared his boys for the studio but didnt intimidate them when they were working with me - it was MY turn to intimidate them at that point !!! We certainly all bumped heads in the studio, but we all respected each other, so it never really got out of hand and we were ALWAYS good friends outside the studio.Live like that and ya cant go wrong unless ya got bad songs
