The strobe tuners aren't cheap so I'll have to wait a bit... especially since I just got new tires on the car today.
Ah... damned... I hate spending my money on that "neccessity crap". LOL!

Both of my grandfathers spent some time in Newfoundland before shipping out to Europe in WWII. They said there wasn't much out there so they were able to save their money.
Once they got to England though, they blew it all. LOL!

Hummmmmmm.
Screech??? Maybe I had too much, therefore explaining why I can't remember screech??
I did walk in the "mish" rather extensively, and actually missed a Moose!!! That was before I had Lasik......
The family are GREAT people. I really had one of the absoulte best times of my life during the week I was there. They taught me a lot about life....no kidding.
True story.....so, we're in the woods, and in the mish (large areas of marsh land, the Newfie's call the mish), and we come across another hunter. Of course my friend and guide knows this fella...in a tiny town, everybody knows everybody else. We chat for at least 15 minutes. He tells us of every moose track he's seen in the last two days, and my guide tells him the same. Hell, in Pennsylvania, most hunters would sooner KILL someone, than tell them where they saw a deer!!! Anyhow, that night, after dinner, we go to the local tavern, and they are having a wedding reception for the very same guy we spoke with in the woods earlier that day!!!! That guy finished Moose hunting, and got cleaned up and married!! Needless to say, we all ended up dancing on the tables, and had a most memorable, and WONDERFUL TIME. I'd love to visit them again.......I came home from that trip feeling healthier, and happier than I'd been in a long time.

Once they got to England though, they blew it all. LOL! That's amazing....My Dad was on a destroyer escort in WW II, and it was sunk by a U Boat torpedo in the North Atlantic. It was August, otherwise he'd not have survived. The torpedo hit broke his leg. He spent 6 hours in the water. He has a purple heart from injuries he incurred, but he survived. He was transported to New Foundland, then St. John's Nova Scotia....

I just forwarded the link to several of my friends, including my partner, who have Newfie connections...
I seem to recall that Port was popular. I was told that Portugal shipped their Port to Newfoundand to be stored in ??caves, and therefore Port became popular in Newfoundland. I recall that there was a "Newman's Port", that I sampled a bit......

there is a "screeching in ceremony" that us regular folk can do in NFLD. you must drink some screech, recite a bit of newfanese slang and kiss a codfish.

Actually, I was very very nearsighted before I had Lasik (which I do for people all the time!!!). It was a 33 degree day, and snowing. We made a fast walk (slow run....) for about 3 miles into the "mish", or marshes. I was wearing a gore-tex rain suit. We get to this larger opening, and a cow moose is at the other side...perhaps 100 yards away. So, I'm short of breath, and as soon as I stop, my sweat and body heat immediately fogs up my glasses (and they were thick glasses!!). So, I'm swaying with each breath, and my glasses are totally steamed up. The guide then HANDS ME THE RIFLE!!! Well, THAT'S HOW I MISSED A FULL GROWN COW MOOSE BROADSIDE AT 100 YDS..
There is magic in the mish.....
Did I tell you that I'm a very precise, and excellent shot???

For anyone anywhere near Milwaukee, Denny Rauen is incredible. I've had him do some pretty extensive work on several of my guitars and he is first class all the way.

Doug at the Musicstop in Bedford is renowned! He plays at O'Carol's once a week too....very, very well I might add. He does excellent, excellent work but unfortunately his reputation has resulted in quite a workload. He's typically backed up three weeks or so. From what I've heard he's the local "guy".
If there's any mojo to be squeezed from a guitar, I'd give him a try.

In the Allentown, Pennsylvania area, Dave Smith is excellent!!
Dave is an acomplished Jazz guitarist, and sole proprietor of his own Music store for something like 40 years (he recently sold the store). Dave has done set ups for ever, and is great. He's retired from the store, but still teaches guitar at one of our fine local colleges, and continues to do set ups, etc..
