Phil, it could be worse. It's cold here, and last night I discovered that my car's heater blower has died. I had to drive home without very little heat coming out of the vents. My car is in the shop right now. Combined with the fact that I just had the catalytic converter replaced (I paid $850.00, or about 429.15 pounds. This price includes an oil change), it has not been a good year so far for my car (1999 Honda). I'm thinking that by the end of the year I'll be getting another car. Sometimes all this car stuff makes me wanna cry.
So I guess that my dream of getting a nice little amp for my acoustic is a little delayed...
BTW, have fun with your parents this weekend!
Michelle

I wasn`t going to mention this but, I lost a buddy this past week. He had been a record producer in L.A, in fact was the man behind L.A`s Wasted Youth, one of the early punk bands:
http://upoprecords.jp/shopdetail/015000000038/product/
Unfortunately he fell victim to the fast living and hard partying of the times, and his health never recovered. He had always hoped to move back west and restart his career, but without a new musical discovery or major funding it wasn`t in the cards. He could be difficult at times but he didn`t have an easy time and was a good person at heart, I will miss him. Smooth sailing my friend, catch ya on the other side.

Well, I've been conducting a MySpace experiment.
We've had a bit of a "discussion" in our band over the past few weeks regarding MySpace. I don't know if you guys have noticed, but if you click on the "browse" option on the menu bar, you can se everyone who's logged on recently. Divided by location. gender, age, etc. A perfect little marketing tool, really.
So we had this... discussion. I maintained that we really should try and add ppl. that aren't already *in* bands, because that's the only way you're going to grow an audience rather than churning the same old people over and over. Wellington's a very small town so you run through your potential audience very quickly indeed. So that was my position.
My guitarist, instead, thought it was a sleazy thing to do.
So anyway, I gave it a go today. But it doesn't seem to work very much. I had some people accept the req, but there wasn't a huge increase in the number of plays for the MP3s in our jukebox, which means that either they didn't really play the songs and just clicked on "accept" automatically, or only played a couple of songs at most. Only one new comment, too.
Mind you, we ARE in the middle of a four day Easter weekend, so maybe more people will accept or play more songs as they return from their holidays. Perhaps the experiment, as such, has been inconclusive, but maybe only people that are already into bands take any notice of bands.
Have you guys ever tried anything similar?

Geoff: fair enough, I'm just blown out because one somehow thinks that, if you tell people about something, they will be interested (a bit like that scene in the Blues Brothers), whereas people see gig posters every day and don't necessarily drop everything to come to the gig. I guess MySpace is no different.
If the results are as disappointing as they've been so far, I guess it teaches me something about the realities of marketing a band: you are basically selling the band to people who are already in the market for music, and no matter how directly you approach people, they won't be into going to see a gig. It's fairly obvious, but now I can see it before my very eyes.

Vince, I didn't know that feature of MySpace. I think it works well for networking or when you already have a following rather than building one. I promoted the debut Luna Kalamata gig on MySpace but I doubt anyone who attends will be through that. I emailed 100 or so people and I know a lot of those are attending since they know me personally. Mind you, this is a debut gig. I've found a lot of cool music on MySpace through following links to friends of friends but they've been all over the world, not on my doorstep. What I think works best is to hire a decent venue and set yourself up a monthly residency where people know they will find you. Even you biggest fans will not want to come to all your gigs though.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Skip.
Thanks Phil Not to dwell on this for too long but, I think it`s easy to get philisophical about death being another phase of life, about focusing on the positive, about all this and that. Then one day the knock comes on your door, and then it just sucks. It just incredibly sucks.

Morning Peeps!!!
Well, so far the snow has fallen all around us, but none here!!! And Worcester was clear yesterday although there were a few showers while we were there. So, it's dull & overcast and still pretty cold, but not as cold as it has been.
We have someone coming to view the house this afternoon and for various reasons, this will probably be the last chance to sell it, as the other place we are interested in is under offer.
Whatever happens, things should get back to normal by the end of the week - thank goodness!!!
I've picked up a Levinson Blade Middle pickup (reverse wound) which is beautifully screened with copper tape, and I'm dying to get it onto the Frankenstrat. I might even manage it by the end of the week.

Thanks Reif!!!!
The guy was a wheelchair user. We'll see.
Put the Levinson pup on the middle today.
Goes well with the Schaller S6 in the bridge - same basic tone.
It's nice and open and 'Stratty' - I like it.

Well that's the facts of the matter.
Loughborough sits down in a kind of bowl, and sometimes we just miss all the bad weather.
On the other hand, a few years ago it all came down inside the bowl & we were cut off for about 3 days..............
