LOL....you are probably right!! More Koa photos to come, I HOPE!!
There is a machine that is used to do the carve...??is it called a CMC, or something like that. Apparently, this machine is used to do the carve.
I'll speak with the guy who's going to do it, and see if I can get pics of various steps of the process, and post them.
I bet Boggs or one of our forum engineers might chime in here, and provide more info about the "carve machine"?????

That's a CNC machine (Computerized Numerical Control). That's the same type of machine that the Big Guys use to route necks and bodies (essentially a giant computer-controlled router); your luthier buddy must run a pretty big shop? Good for him (and yourself, too)!

I'll have to ask Jack to bring me to see his shop. Jack runs Magdon Music, the most excellent music shop where I recently bought my Anderson. They have a big web business, and a great store with many hard to find lines...Fuchs, a huge selection of PRS, Anderson, and many great amp lines.
Jack makes guitars on the side, and has done so for a long time. With the carved face, and set neck, I know I won't be doing as much of the work on this guitar as previous ones. We'll see....... I want to copy the electronics of the David Grissom Sig. PRS just released, but with different pu's.

Magdon seems like a cool place to hang out at. Places like that with more exotic cool stuff are hard to come by around here.
I'm too lazy to look it up now but I'll take a look at that Grissom wiring, I will follow your design journey with interest.

Here's the PRS DGT;

Here's the PRS Demo Vid for the DGT;

I want to be able to use a volume pot for each pu, and be able to use each to mix how much of each is heard. Master tone pot, with a push pull to coil tap.
I'll have a HT bridge, something like a classic tune-o-matic.
I think I'm gonna try some Duncan custom shop Antiquities voiced for a solid Koa body.

Well you could be here! :-) We only arranged it Friday night, so hopefully next time we can arrange a bit more in advance and get a few more of us together

I would come over to Cambridge, I'll make it there sometime. I was born in Ely, near Cambridge. Sounds like a great get-together - pity about the weather!
We decided to have a jam thread on Lowdown after the success of the thread here - naturally mostly due to Lister's excellent backing tracks and the quality and range of the soloists here. It'll be harder to get bassists to do it.
Here is my recording over a track drums/rhythm guitar/keyboards laid down by RicBassGuy and Dave Sisk on Lowdown. I added a Wal bass track and a melody on the Peavey Piccolo bass. 1st takes only so no laughing!

Nice words, Lee - thanks!
I had such a nice time with Lee and the lovely Karen, who was very nice to me despite my thinking she was half Norwegian instead of Danish!! Sorry Karen!!
Very nice pub lunch in a very nice pub. Good beer - Brain's (Welsh).
I took The Frankenstrat. Lee's the first person other than myself to spend any time with it, and, I'm glad to report he appreciated the tonal dexterity built into it. I also had the Double Fat Strat from which he was able to extract a fabulous jazz tone.
I also had the Westone Thunder III Fretless Bass (BEAD) and the Vantage Double P Bass Fretless (EADG) which we fiddled with a bit.
Since we didn't have any known mutual interest I ran through some stuff on an old set list from my last band and we tossed some stuff around.
I got a chance to play the Epi LP and his PRS SE, both with insanely low (and workable) actions. I must openly admit I'm not an LP kind of guy, but I really liked the PRS - very bright for a 'bucker.
I also played through the Line 6 Spider, but barely scratched the surface, and had a little longer with the Laney 15, which is an absolute poppet!!
Well worth the 2 hour-each-way drive and I hope we'll get together again.
G.

Hello Everyone!
I forgot to wear green today for St. Patrick's Day, but I guess I could be forgiven because I brought in irish soda bread into the office. It's the first time I have made this kind of bread. I used my bread machine. The bread came out good, but not as good as if I made it by hand.
Anyone here cooking up some corned beef and cabbage today?
Have a great day everyone!
Michelle

Morning all! I'm thinking of having another Lowdown get-together in London if anyone fancies it, I know that no-one here is based in the Big Smoke and travelling's a pain but we were going to get together for a multi-bass jam again some time.

I've been wondering if this might be possible through Skype or something: there has to be a better way and you probably know that. Now I've got the Lowdowners copying you guys and putting together collaborative jam tracks it's only a matter of time.
Pity we don't have a drum forum, we could actually do something collaboratively with tracks from the guitar, bass and keyboard forums - a guy from the Keyboard Corner did join us for our last Forum jam.

Well, I'm feeling rather musicaly chuffed.
I've been listening a lot to Wendy Carlos' Switched On Bach album, which has long been one of my fave albums, but I'd been neglecting it over the past year and a bit.
Anyway... Out of curiosity I started reading reviews and stuff, and somebody mentioned Bach's use of counterpoint.
Now, "counterpoint" is something I've seen described in various books on jazz and I'd never understood what the hell it actually was. But theory books on jazz tend to be like that, don't they?
And it turns out that not only do I now understand what counterpoint is, I tend to make rather heavy use of it! So all of a sudden, I've not only figured out the meaning of something I was always too embarassed to ask about, but realized that I have something of an instinctive grasp of it!
And I finally figured out what a "comma" was, but I've forgotten. Oh, well... can't win them all.

Morning Peeps!!!!
Overcast, breezy and cold. Getting colder toward the weekend. Philly's going to arrive back from 80F in Oz to a snowstorm, by the looks of it.
Didn't achieve anything yesterday, so must do it today.

Hi Geoff, yes, from what I've used you make a lot of use of counterpoint, Vince. I was really into it when I started out (both as a bassist and limited composer) as it is very effective on bass but somehow it's a concept I left by the wayside. I heard a bassplayer mention it in an interview recently and it rekindled my interest in it.

The most basic way I could get myself to understand counterpoint, is like a single person playing piano (this is a very layman example because I am a layman) the right hand doing one thing, the left the other but as a whole they make up the harmony.
So guitar 1 is playing something, guitar 2 is playing something completely different, yet when they are played together they are harmonious.

Yup. That's it, as far as I can see.
Think of something like trad jazz, where you have like, four guys playing wind instruments (ie monophonic, one note at a time) and they are basically playing four different, interlaced melodies and yet harmonizing and going in the same direction.
Sure, there's usually a piano or a banjo doing chords somewhere in the background, but up front, there's counterpoint.
I mentioned this MIDI file on the "My First Bass" thread, but it's still a good example of counterpoint.
http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Strasse/1729/bwv29sin.mid
If you listen, you'll notice that there's no real "wash", there's no instrument holding down a chord backing, it's ALL going at the same time. Amazing stuff...
