Our singer is thinking of playing a bit of second, rythem guitar and we need to get him a small, relatively inexpensive amp[under $500].He`ll still need a good sound and some "chunk" on occasion-what would you recommend? Arch

Get a Traynor Custom Valve 40...from clean to overdriven, you can't get a bad tone out of this amp! Check out http://www.yorkville.com

put a prop amp up on stage and run a direct line to your sound person dialing in the tone and sending the right mix to your monitors and mains.

Find a used Deluxe reissue.

Or a used Marshall JTM combo.

Famous last words... Seriously, try to avoid volume wars. Audiences are rarely impressed. Also, try to get him to commit to a tone that's not occupying the same space you're presently taking up. I like it best when the singer in my band picks up an acoustic.
