Hello Fellow Guitarist's,
Do any of you have some suggestions on a good quality banjo to buy for the
money, & then the same in the mandolin category? Any suggestions you might
have would help out.

I know very little about banjo, but I love mandos. I've just got an Epiphone. It's okay, but the neck seems to change and no adjustment is available so a bit of a pain. If I were buying a new one, I'd check the Tocoma mandolin. I've not played it, but I have played the acoustic bass and it's just unbelieveable.

I'm afraid I don't know much about either instrument but I can recommend a place called Elderly Instruments highly. I've bought many guitars, both new and used, from them and I've always been more than pleased. They actually specialize in instruments used for bluegrass and country music and they seem to have a good selection. Their website is http://www.elderly.com

You might be able to find a decent A model for just under a grand. Mando's are just plain expensive for a decent one. Banjo's are just as expensive. Or more.

The musician friend's catalog have a six string banjo. You play it like a guitar but it sounds like a banjo. What could be easier?

I'd suggest a Deering for the banjo; their "Good Time" is an incredible bargain at aroudn $300.00...US made! Their other more expensive pieces are also fantastic for the money. For mandos, I'd look at Tacoma and Flatiron.
