Has anyone does this? Did the unit's midi out transmit fast enough to control a hardware or software synthesizer? How about sequencing with the on-board sounds?

Yeah, it works. I use it with Cubase. I do not regret buying the GR-33, I use it all the time. It has completely eliminated the need for my crummy keyboard chops except for drum sequencing. I want to get a pad controller for drums next.

I've got one, but I mainly use it with it's internal sounds. It tracks WAY better with it's own sounds than with external modules. It's great tho for little string lines, chord washes type sequencing. I mainly track stuff to midi, clean it up, and then fire it back to the GR-33 via midi. Works fantastic that way.

The GR-33 is better when you use its internal sounds. I finally decided to get a guitar-midi rig last year when I realized that I didn't have the time or patience to improve my lousy keyboard playing. I looked at a few units including the Roland, the Parker MidiFly (sucks) and a Yamaha. I finally settled on the Blue Chip Axon AX-100. It's a dedicated controller that uses a standard 14 pin hex-pickup - they make their own but you can use a Roland hex(I do). You can also get an interface that lets you plug in a guitar with a piezo system.

The tracking is much faster than the Roland and it has more string/fret splits and picking zones. You can get a version that comes with an internal soundboard but if you already have synths and sound modules, it's unnecessary. I use it with a Kurzweil 2500 and it works great.

I have a GR-1 that I've had forever when I was INTO space guitar for a while but it doesn't track well to my computer vs playing keys into it. I imagine a sequencer would work better, then just transfer to the computer from there. The delay is just too long to get a "real time" feel that I never used it that way since. Maybe a better unit would make it easier? Really like the GR-1 on a string swell and also running a POD on string swell into a PA sounds too cool. And Totally Self Indulgent! Ha Ha!!!! But it's fun.

Gabriel, how much is the Axion controller you speak of worth? How long has it been on the market?
