Yes, Page used an old 50's Danelectro DC (actually, if I remember correctly, the body was a DC and the neck was from another model) when he was in the Yardbirds. He brought it back out later, in Zep, for "Kashmir" and "White Summer".

Don't know what kind of Danelectro you mean or whether it was an old one or a new one, but ya know, I think they're pretty nifty little guitars especially considering most are less than $200! I wouldn't mind having one at all.
The only drawback as I understand it is that they don't last that long before they start to fall apart, if you use them regularly for gigging. I've heard maybe 2-3 years. Of course at that price you could chuck it and buy a new one every so often, and you certainly wouldn't be heartbroken if one broke or got stolen on the road.
I would definitely get one to have lying around in the studio though - sometimes when you're looking for that perfectly trashy guitar sound, nothing else will do!

I think the new Danelectros play really well and most of them are usually way better than many of the old ones. They definitely do have a cool vibe and an interesting tone.
By the way, Jimmy Page replaced the bridge on his original one with a Badass, so it would have better intonation. The intonation on most of the old ones is horrible. That's one of the drawbacks of the old ones. Intonation on the new ones is actually good.

I played with the acoustic convertable (?not sure of exact model name) model of Danelectro and liked the electric/acoustic blend of sound it made and would find it a nice addition to my stock of guitar sounds I use here in my own little music world. Also found it very playable in it's "in the store, on off the rack" state and bet with a little work and adjustment it's be a great playing instrument. If a bit of extra "frivolous" cash comes my way one is definately on my wish list.
In relation to the Teleacoustic and Statacoustic, the Danelectro blows those out of the water. Those Fender models of which I've tried at four or five different stores have disgusting action, stock out of the factory and of the rack.

Hello!
The Danelectro reissues are great guitars for the money. I bought a U56 [commie red] a few years ago and it is still one of my favorite guitars. The tone of the instrument is unique, but I guess that is part of what I like about it... it makes a fine clean-jazz guitar using the neck pickup. If anyone would like to hear the U56 Dano played solo, you can hear examples at http://www.geocities.com/turnerresearch/guitar. The tunes "Round Midnight" and "Macho's Lullaby" are solo Dano performances direct into a G4/DIGI001 system thru a Presonus MP20 preamp.
Best Regards,
Dennis

I have a Hodad 12-string, Hodad Baritone and an Innuendo Baritone. The Hodads hve the typical masonite construction while the Innuendo is plywood a la a Squire Strat. All the have the Mosrite style body shape. The 12-string is excellent, 3 pick ups, seven combinations, an excellent bridge. It is an incredibly versatile guitar. It's no Rick, but for less than $300 you can't go wrong. The Hodad Baritone is strung as a 6-string bass and is pissah! It has a fully intonatable bridge. Dano's are wicked cool, and if they fall apart, you can use them for countertops!

Simon!!!
How cool to hear your well-er! A friend of mine brought a Dano over for a fix on the floating bridge. It's too fun to play. If you end up with a bridge that swims around... Make 2 donuts out of two-sided tape, 1/8"(3mm) hole, in a 1/4" (6mm) round pad. It allows the pins to freely transfer vibes to the top, but limits their travel, via the edge of the holes.
Neat tone, vintage look, cheaper than a brake job.... too cool
Rick
