In the olden days, we used to basically wing it, getting gigs by sheer luck and by association with folks our own age. We currently do a combo of self management and use of a local agent, and it works most of the time to our advantage. The agent really makes a difference getting more high profile shows, and alleviates all the nit-picking work necessary for a given job. We always hire out sound, so it really helps having someone line all the ducks up for you. Plus we all in our band, have great careers.....drummer is a geologist, singer is a teacher, bassist is an engineer, and I'm an electronics tech/field engineer. Our agent has the networking thing down, and has contacts from hell. So what do you guys do to keep the ball rollin?
