Man, I'm so happy. I usually get ripped when I tell other guitar goons that I can't stand SRV and Clapton and here's a forum where others actually feel the same!!!! Right now the ultimate suck band has to be Creed.

Woohoo Chip! I'm with ya all the way! Everybody I went to school with totally dug Kiss too and I HATED 'em! Never did get it at all.
trickfall et al: Sure I think Creed suck, but I don't quite understand all the outright hatred of them. To me, they're just there. They're just this generic band that don't mean anything to me one way or the other, I pretty much just ignore 'em and that's pretty easy to do. Yet I know all these people that just FLIP OUT about how bad they suck. Don't really understand that, there are much worse "artists" to vent your hatred on... LOL... felt the same way about Hootie and the Blowfish, they just seemed harmless to me. People just totally RIPPED on them and I was like, "Well, of course I wouldn't buy their record, but geez, they're just a bunch of guys who worked hard and succeeded, and I can't really HATE them for that."
But whatever.

Oh yeah, Kiss... I forgot that they ever even existed. Nope, I was never in to them either. Another thing I never caught on to was those '80s "hair bands".
The '80s were really weird for me... I was in high school, and everyone I knew was listening to bands like Bon Jovi and Poison. I just couldn't see the fascination with those bands. I was stuck with one foot in the '60s, and the other in this new underground alternative scene. My friends would come over to my house, and I'd be listening to SNFU or the Minutemen, and they'd just look at me like I was nuts.

see i guess i was the opposite. i had to turn all my freinds on to KISS. i saw "hotter than hell" at the k-mart and begged my mom to loan me the $4.99 to buy the lp just because these guys looked wild and ace was wearing a dress on the back cover! i played it when i got home and thought it rocked, but my friends were not impressed at all. of course 6 months later they were all waiting in line to buy tickets.... btw, KISS and the Minutemen, now there's a good double bill!

Yo, Chip...
I wasn't really dissing Star Trek...our bass player is a fanatical Trekkie...
What I was doing is comparing the mindset of "Kissies" and "Trekkies"...people who get dressed in character to get into their fantasyland...kinda like "Rocky Horror" or the WWF...
There were a couple of Kiss songs I didn't mind...but I think I really (perhaps subconsciously) chose NOT to like them, just because everyone else did.

Every Bassist is a Trekky!!!!
And as for creed, we'll there is that issue about crossing the genre lines that I personally would applaud. Remember Jars of Clay Flood? Tons of air time till the station managers read the lyrics leaf......... OOOPS!!! Can't play a band with an agenda! Like Eminem doesn't have one

If you're referring to the fact that a "christian" band has done well in the popular market....I just don't see how there's that big of a difference between what creed does and what any other rock band does. It seems like if a band is to be applauded for bending genres, they should at least do something (or not do something) that sets them apart as being a representative of their genre. Creed just doesn't do that. They've managed to convince both the "christian" and "secular" market that they're on their side without actually being on either.
To me their just friggin' annoying.

Well... hmm. Yeah, Kiss *is* like WWF, but Rocky Horror as a phenomenon is different I think. At least then everyone involved pretty much acknowledges it's a freakshow. Trekkies... well, I certainly don't mind if some woman wants to have the Counselor Troi look... but Trekkies - that's the same thing I suppose. You're talking to someone you think is sane, and then suddenly they start talking (with a straight face) about how the war with the Romulans is going to be over soon because of new advances in baryon particle weapons.
I HATE stuff like that. I'm a big sci-fi fan. I can't bear to be around other sci-fi people though, because it's soooooo painful... You're standing there thinking "please oh please don't start talking about Klingons there's a pretty woman about to walk by"...
The flipside... I used to work with a singer/guitar player that was really into online games, you'd never know it by looking at him. One day we're at his place practicing, and there's a phone call:
SINGER (on phone): "oh, ok... hey, tell the Mortificator Sithrak she has a cool staff, ok? Bye"
???????? I was on the floor CRYING after hearing that: sounded like he was talking about stopping on the way home to pick up some milk!
SCENARIO:
You're jamming with some rock musicians, and everything is going fine, until someone mentions "Kiss". Then everyone starts jamming on a Kiss song, grinning and miming Gene Simmons, having a good time, and I'm standing there going "this song is really weak.... hello?"....
I *do* know I have a lot of friends who saw Kiss as their first rock concert. That probably explains a lot, but outside of that - I don't get it.

Man, I totally get the KISS thing. I was 6 years old in '76 and begged my mom at K-Mart (common thread?) for the Alive cassette and she got it for me. Thanks, mom! The teenage kids next door let me hang out w/them and they were all into KISS and Led Zep and Deep Purple... used to sit and stare at the KISS posters and think "wow... that's sooo KOOL!"
KISS epitomizes BIG ROCK ACTION... ya know, jumping around, breathing fire, hot chix everywhere, rocket-launching guitars, occult powers... All the reasons you get into music in the first place! Before you discover it's all a CRUEL HOAX to sell instruments. Then your throw yourself into fusion jazz and pretend you're happy, but secretely you're a bitter old fart.

Ahhh, those were the days. Now all kids that age have is Barney.
HORRIFYING THOUGHT...
Picture Barney in Kabuki Gene Simmons makeup with Gothic dragon boots banging his head while singing "I love you"...

As a blues fan, I cannot get into Robert Cray or Mark Knopfler. And yes, here's the huge sacrilege...B.B. King. Of the three kings, give me Freddie and Albert over B.B. any day. He's way too jazzy and "uptown" for me. His touch is way too gentle and sweet. I'll take the aggressive touch of Albert Collins over that any day. Sorry.
