I am loking to replace my bridge pickup with something that is less bright. Any suggestions??

I modded one of my Tele's a couple of years ago with a bridge "Blue" Lace Sensor pickup. It sounds very nice. Gone is the "ice-pick" treble, now it growls and screams much more smoothly.

I play mostly blues and rock and this pickup works great for this purpose.

I'm using a Lindy Fralin vintage plus (5% overwound) set. The bridge PU is almost too warm. My tele has a pine body. I could use some more snap.

Anyway, the Fralins are real musical. Get the 5% overwound ones - they eliminate the icepick but still twang.

Generally speaking, the more winds you have, the more midrange and hence less brightness.

I bought a Custom Shop Tele with a 9.45kohm (extremely overwound) bridge pickup that was edgy and harsh. I put in a sweeter, warmer sounding pickup (less powerful with a different formula of magnets) by John Suhr of Lake Elsinore and am now very happy.

Why is the brightness a problem? You should be able to adjust tone on your guitar as well as at the amp. And the use of pedals always lessens brightness.

Jimi Hendrix favored late 60's Strats which we know have very bright pickups. But this guitar matched up very well with his fuzz and Marshalls.

What are you playing through? Tele's sound bright and have a directness due to the unique pickup and steel bridge plate.
