What are the latest and greatest gear purchases all of you have made? Or, if you haven't gotten anything new recently, what new toy(s) are you hoping for Santa to leave under your tree this Xmas?

I bought a Nord Modular synth a while ago. It has an analog input that can be used in the patches. Lately I've been experimenting with running my guitar and Stick through it and using the synth as an effect box. Even more fun, you can control all the parameters via MIDI. I'll use a sequencer to send out controller changes to sweep the filters on the synth as I'm playing the guitar.
I'm not entirely happy with the sound yet, but there's a lot of possibilities.

Well, I don't know about the greatest purchases I've made, but (and as I mentioned before, our gear is kinda minimalist...)...but, I guess my Strat, Am Std...stock. Like it. Bought it a couple of months ago. Also finally bought some stuff to help in the recording end, a BBE Sonic Maximizer (482, I think)...and a JoeMeek mic pre. But, on my budget, new strings are an event...hehehe...speaking of which, my Rick 360-12 is about due for a change. I sent the following comment to Rickenbacker...
"When I die, I'll find myself in a huge hall filled with thousands of Rick 12 strings. If someone walks in and says "Play 'em", I'll know I'm in Heaven. If someone walks in and says "Re-string 'em"...I'll know I've gone to the other place...".
As for the jolly fat guy, uh, the OTHER jolly fat guy, not me...he could bring me a nice Twin Reverb and a big ol' hollow body Gretsch. But the wife probably won't let him...
But I am thinking on getting a Squier for my 13 year old daughter, who thinks she owns my Strat... She's already got a little Gorilla amp she runs my Strat through, and is trying to get her friends together into a band...how cool!!!

Ted,
I think it's great about your daughter. My wife and I were in the music store today working on our wish list (she - a Guild jumbo, me the Taylor 710). Anyway she made the comment that all of the people you see picking up guitars and playing in the store are guys. And more's the pitty.
I know I'll be encouraging my daughter as well. (She's already eyeing my strat and she's only six and barely taller than it is.)
Anyway, back to the topic... fortunately we didn't have the money for the Taylor or the Guild so an argument was avoided! For now we'll make do with our Japanese acoustics and dream.
Cheers,
Layne

I have a stripped-down Guild dreadnought, satin finish, dot inlays, no slick binding, got a good price on it used, but it was just about new. I look at the Taylors and drool, but mine plays really nice, sounds nice, and I got it for almost 2 grand less than some Taylors. If your Japanese acoustics play and sound okay, give 'em a hug and pick away!

The local G.C. had the Johnson J-Station for 218$ this weekend, so I snagged one for those late-night bedroom inspiration things - seems to be a pretty nice piece of equipment, if not exactly replacing my Princeton Reverb
And I've got an old Roland GR300/G505 guitar synthesizer setup coming, thanks to Ebay. I finally get to fulfill that bit of gear lust from 1981 ...

My latest and greatest would have to be a Fostex VF-16 hard disk recorder I just got. Don't know what I'm doing with it yet but I sure am having a ball playin with it. Now if I could just figure out how to use Compression.

Well, the GR300 showed up - probably one of the coolest and weirdest guitar effects boxes ever made. Much more that than a real "synthesizer" - seems more like a polyphonic EH microsynth done right. Roland oughta do a reissue.

The only guitar toys I've bought recently are a POD, which I'm lukewarm about but it's nice for working out recording parts at 3 am, and a Danelectro compressor stompbox, which sounds great on my Rickenbacker 12-string!
Other than that, all my money is getting blown on recording gear! Got the new Yamaha AW4416 and it kicks ass! Already I've had waaayyy too many late nights with that and the POD.

The latest and greatest at GigaBoy A/V is a 1963 Ampeg B-15N flip-top Portaflex bass amp. This amp is not loud enough for loud jamming but has tone out the wazoo and is great for re-amping DI'd bass tracks with a U47FET.

Just had my birthday, and I got the Line6 DM4 Distortion Modeler and DL4 Delay Modeler.
Both sound great with my Hot Rod Deluxe. I especially like the idea of having so many different "classic" effects in each box. I'm more of an overdrive rather than distortion guy, and there's plenty to like with the ones in the DM4.
The DL4 has the fattest space echo model... much warmer and musical than any of the other "digital" delays I had been using.
I don't want to get into the debate as to whether they sound "exactly" like the effects they model, but they sound great... that's all that matters to me.

I just got my second Don Grosh Custom Guitar. A Retro Classic model. Light Alder body, finished in Dark Cherry burst Nitro Lacquer, Birdseye Maple neck, East Indian Rosewood fingerboard, Lindy Fralin Pickups and boy does it honk!! That guy does the best fret work I've ever seen. You could comb your hair in those frets! It sounds angelic. Clear, complex and harmonically balanced. It sounds amazing unplugged. Rings like crazy top to bottom! I've so blessed to have such a superb guitar!
Peace, Long2Play

Just before Christmas, I went on a search for the ultimate (for me anyway) dreadnaught acoustic.
I tried everything I could lay my hands on - Bourgeois, Collings, Goodall, Larrivee, Lowden, Martin, Santa Cruz, Taylor, Thompson. We're talking a bunch of high-end guitars here.
Finalists were a handful of various Bourgeous models and a Huss and Dalton D-RH.
The H&D won. It's a modern homage to a pre-war large sound hole Martin D28HD. It's very similar to the Santa Cruz Tony Rice model. Beautiful sounding, great playing and impeccably executed.
Life's pretty good when you can buy that much guitar for $2,500 out the door!

Y'all,
I recently bought a PHA-1 Headphone Amp from Raven Labs (run by Steve Rabe, founder of SWR). This is a great piece of equipment if you can't make a lot of noise playing at home. I can plug in my bass, headphones, and a cd player and mix it all together for practicing. It's also proved to be a nice preamp for some pc-based recording that I've done..
Cheers!

Digi 001. I can't tell you how much freedom I have now. After being part of the Mackie/Adat project studio club for many years. I have truly seen the light of ProTools. Up next is the TDM system.
Some extras: Bombfactory plugs. - All are amazing especially the LA2A
Waves Gold Bundle - Amazing
Joe Meek VC3Q Great Pre for the $$$$
Van Zandt Fullertone Strat Pickups. WOW By far the best.
There has never been a better time to be a gear head.
Cheers BK

I want an Epi Casino next. Latest stuff I've gotten guitar wise is a Pod. Lee, you HAVE to edit the onboard sounds with Sound Diver to get this thing to "speak". Once you do, I'll bet your impressions improve.
I spend WAY too much on the recording gear, but hey, that's how I make my living. I agree with Lee - The Yamaha AW4416 is a incredibly cool unit and sounds great.

I made the best investment ever in the last year. I bought a Taylor 414 Grand Auditorium. No electronics or fancy inlays. I felt it was the perfect size for recording, not as big and boomy as a jumbo, but still projects well. I use an Audio Technica 4033 condenser mic through a Presonus BlueTube to record it. Just an amazing sound. I don't know why I waited so long to get a great acoustic but I will play this thing forever, and it will just sound better and better with age. It's the first time I've ever really been in love....don't tell my girlfriend that.

I just bought a Taylor 710. I thought I had a nice acoustic guitar before, but I didn't know what I was missing.
I got a TopHat amplifier this summer. 20 watts of class A amplification. Crank this in the studio: windows don't break and ears don't bleed, but the sound remains gorgeous.

Taylors! Gotta LOVE 'em! My wife bought me a beautiful 510 (sans electronics - I HATE piezos) for a wedding present 6 years ago, and that thing gets better and better every year.
BTW, if you find a partner who is willing to buy YOU guitars, marry them! She also bought me a great Telecaster when we were dating...
