I need to install a new audio card in my new PC, and am wondering who uses what. I need "0" latency, and it needs to work with Sonar, Traktion, Cubase, Acid, and VSTi's. I am open to PCI, USB, Firewire. Who wants to tackle this?

Sonar 4 Producer, Traktion 2, Cubase 2SX, ACID Pro 4.0, VSTi's by NI, AAS, GeForce, Waves, etc.

Why are you using all those apps, when they mostly do basically the same thing?
For my money you cannot beat the RME or Lynx cards.
You have not said how many simultaneous tracks you need to be able to record. If it is just a couple, there are several answers for not much money. (Compared to needing 16 or more...)

I'm with Bill. We use the RME 9652 on our DAW with Nuendo. Very pleased with the bang-for-the-buck we got. For the money you are limited to, watch ebay!

I only need to record 2 at a time. I can patchbay the inputs from my mixer's direct outs. I use so many DAWs because the producers I work with use Sonar and Cubase, and I have just started using Traktion for another client. Since they have been footing the bills for my software to keep me up with them, I will learn them.
Thanks for the quick responses. I will check this out (the RME). I am willing to spend a little more for the right piece, but it needs to be "proven", hence the thread.

The E-Mu 1212M has 192/24 converters and is a stereo in/out card (on analog), plus it has ADAT and SPDIF coaxial connectors... plus midi too. All for $200 or so.

OK, here's the update. I got to listen to some audio cards, WOW!, the RME was impressive, but I do not need so many input/outputs. And the price was a bit steep.
I got the EMU 1212M with the Emulator X. I am having fun with it, and my latency has dropped to between 2-5 ms. I can live very comfortably with this.
Thanks for all the advise. That's why I asked.

Recording Rule of Thumb: You will ALWAYS need more I/O than you currently think.
Pay a bit more now and it won't hurt your wallet so much when you have to buy twice....

I usually live by that rule, but this time there was such a crunch financially that it was impractical to spend $600.
