I'm new here and wasnt really sure where to put this in the forums. I am a senior in high school and very interested in a career in music and audio recording/engineering. I live in Michigan and am applying to Michigan State University because I have heard it is a good school and it is closeby and isnt too expensive. I have looked into their audio engineering programs and havent really found much but I talked to a representative of the media field in their communications and arts building and she said that the recording engineering field is there at the school but its hard to find stuff about it. She said there is a studio but I couldnt go see it because at the time they were having power troubles with that part of campus. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience and knows of anything about the audio engineering/recording program for MSU. Also does anyone know of a good college in michigan for this field? Thanks a lot and sorry if this is in the wrong place in the forum.

Unless you have other reasons to stay close to home, 'close by' and 'not expensive' are really poor ways to choose a college. Think about it, your choice of college will follow you through your entire career.

So I advise you pick the absolute best school you can find, regardless of where it is.

In Pittsburgh, Duquesne U. In florida, Miami.

But if I was trying to get a gig in engineering; I'd be going to Belmont or Mid Tennessee. Both are in (or near) one of the larger music hubs (Nashville) and both get a lot of pros through the doors, and their grads have a better chance of getting a gig, just because thye've spent four years making contacts on Music Row while attending classes.

Check out the Music Department at Wayne State University.

Perhaps they have a program of interest for you.
