I own dozens of AKAI Sample CDs and I decided to back them up. I created an ISO file for each CD and burned the ISO files on DVD-R's for backup purposes.
I tried to load the samples directply from the DVD I burned. I use Deamon Tools to load the ISO file to a virtual CD drive. I then use Halion to import the files from the virtual CD Drive just as I if I was loading the samples from the original Sample CD.
Are you still with me here?
THe problem is that Halion will not read the samples of the ISO file. THe same occurs with CDXtract. Both Halion and CDXtract can read the original Sample CD but not its image file.
Is there a special way to create image files for AKAI Sample CDs?
If yes what format is suitable (iso, img, nrg, cue/bin), and with what parameters if any?
Thanks for taking the time to read this

You have to do direct images, but even that is hit or miss, because CD-burning apps seem to add PC headers that screw up the CD.
Why not just import everything into Halion and resave? Or if you use an ak.sys compatible sampler, you can save all of your samples directly to a separate hard drive.
Of course, if you're collecting warez, that's a whole other bag.

there's a setting in Daemon Tools that you need to tick off. I forgot what it is at the moment but i'll get back to you. Btw, what utility did you use to create the image? Was it Nero?

To create the images I used Ashampoo Burning Studio 5 which gives you the option of creating cue/bin, iso and Ashampoo image files. In some cases Ashampoo failed to create the images, and then I used UltraISO 7 instead.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Are my 10 DVD's full of AKAI images useless now?

Yiannis, Try going to the Daemon Tools icon tray and under "emulations" tick on "All Options On". If it doesn't work tick off all options in emulations and tick on each protection emulation until you can get it to load the ISO image. If that doesn't do the trick, then it could be your software (Ashampoo) that's giving you the problem. I use Nero and I never had a problem with it in tandem with Daemon Tools. My ISO's can also be read by CDXtract and HALion.
